I'm looking for a new plunge router besides my Festool OF1400. I purchased a Bosch FSN OFA guide rail adapter but unfortunately my OF1400 isn't compatible so I'll need a router that does or an extra one. I can't make up my mind between the Mafell LO50 and the Bosch GOF 1600. I like the Mafell because it's unquestionably a great router and from what I hear it has excellent dust collection. Also the Mafell will come in a systainer and the Bosch won't. On the other hand, I really like the micro adjust on the Bosch routers and the fact it has LEDS to illuminate the cut. Anyone with any experience with the Bosch or other general input? I haven't been able to find much about it on the net.

Since switching to festool routers, dust collection is a must have feature for me on a router. I have eaten faaaaar too much router dust in my time to ever want another spoonful. Are you sure the mafell router is compatible? also have you looked at festool's of 1010 to see if it would fit as it's of very similar design to mafell's, I could be mistaken but it think it's based off of mafell designs in the first place.

I'm sure the LO50E is compatible. Of all the compatible routers listed by Bosch, the choice has come down to one of these two.
The Festool OF101 is also listed as compatible, but my dealer recommends the LO50 over the 1010. He tells me there's differences in the motor, bearings and base plate that make the Mafell run smoother and the dust collection is apparantly better as well on the Mafell. So, that's an easy choice then.

Looking at the 50 it looks similar to the 1000 that prayed the 1010, I heard these were both mafell designs. That's all heresy either way. I'd be eager to hear a hands on review of one.

I own two of the older style Bosch 1617 EVS routers. Both in the kits with the plunge base. One of them has had switch problems repeatedly the other has been good. I find the depth settings to be tricky, not real smooth.
I am assuming the Bosch is about half the price of the Mafell? The Bosch in the video looks like a well thought out tool.

Has anyone tried the triton routers? I had the 2 1/4 horse in a table for several years. Worked fine but I sold it. Personally I like large routers that are heavy and powerful. I only use small routers for easing edges. If you can find the larger Fein router its great for a plunge. Even has great dust collection. I found a new one for $150 and would buy another. Another option would be the Makita Compact router kit which I've heard great things about.

Update: I decided on the Bosch GOF 1600 Bump! Four years later, how has the Bosch treated you? it's sold here as the MRC23EVSK because Bosch likes to convert it's sensible model numbers into gibberish here in the States.

yetihunter: I have the Bosch GOP/GMF 1600. I also have the Bosch GMF 1400 from before. I love the 1400 for the low center of gravity and the way it handles when running ball bearing bits. But, at times it is a little on the weak side. Not very often though. The 1600 I find less appealing for the same jobs (with the GMF base) as the handles are larger than I like but the last couple of months I decided to use it more anyway. It is a refined router, the LED is great to have and I often make one off plexi sub bases and you see really well what's going on. On larger router bits you can literally see through the cut. For power it is strong enough for most of my applications anyway and I find the balance and operations to be excellent, the power on/off in the grip is great! I have yet to have the connector part for the low voltage connection gum up so no troubles so far. I have the OFA32 and all the bells and whistles plus many accessories from before fit so the configurations are a plenty. The OFA plunge base is pretty good. Don't use it as much as the GMF base but no real complaints. Dust collection is good too. I sometimes don't bother to set it up as well as I could have since most of my routing is "messy" unless I run it on the Felder. My colleague has the Festool 1400. Great router, but I don't like it that much. I loved my OF1010 and I had everything for it (almost) but my typical use is an edge router (OFK500 and Makita 18V), a small router (Virutex and again, Makita 18V) and then the Bosch GMF1400/OFA1600 pairing. And the Felder. The OF1010 was my least used machine and after getting the Makita 18V I sold both the Virutex and the OF1010 - with zero regrets. I route out port vents for speakers no problems with the Makita so I am super pleased. My best router purchase to date. But the OFA1600 is good. I would get the GMF bas or the Combo kit though, it takes it from very good to excellent. EDIOT: I mixed a lot of acronyms in the above text "OFA, GOP, GMF" etc, some are in the wrong place or plain wrong but my avatar cat is lodged between the keyboard and across the Wacom pad so corrections are futile at the moment...
