the reason biscuits can leave bumps is because they expand with glue. If placed too close to the surface in certain material this will deform the surface. Pantarouter vs domino xl, XL will be much faster and easier to adapt to different applications than the pantarouter. Of course if you're not doing a lot of production, the pantarouter can be a really cool device to have around and can be used for a bunch of strange things in the shop, Matthias is a clever monkey for sure. XL vs DD40, IMO the dd40 is the best single machine for casework/cabinet construction, It's dead fast, dead accurate and you can make joints and shelfpins with very simple set up off of one machine. The XL is ultimately suited for larger and deeper tennons/mortises. Great for doors/ gates and bigger stuff. XL will work on 3/4" material but I believe the dd40 is faster and produces a great joint here as well. Where a domino is going to beat the dd40 is in things like balusters and the like where two dowels wont fit in the piece and one.....well one spins. anyway, thats my two bits.

After thinking about it for a week or so, I contacted Timberwolf and cancelled my order for the DD40G (which was coming from Germany via Timberwolf, when their next order was placed), and upgraded to the DD40P 'PowerMax' set, which Timberwolf have in stock. Has been despatched, should be with me next week.

Got here in five days. Build quality is superb, and it's beautifully balanced. Need to put on the appropriate plug, then give it a workout.

It also spent a day at the FedEx depot, so was actually six days. Got a stack of nice glossy brochures and catalogues as well, which I much prefer to online browsing, when looking at and comparing tools.

This is great! Connected to my midi vac, via the 36mm hose, and started drilling. I was expecting precision, but it still surprised me. Drilled a series of 8mm holes, using the stops in the fence to space the pairs of holes from each other, in two scraps of MDF. Perfect alignment, and the dowels are a friction fit - firm to push in by hand, but can be removed with a firm pull. All the controls for adjustment are right where they should be, and all are easy to use. Overall, it's a bit smaller than I expected, a lot lighter than I expected. Dust extraction is great, and the connection point is in the perfect spot.

Dowelled together a simple open cabinet today - 18mm melamine faced MR MDF, 2 sides, top, bottom and back. Will have a pair of powdercoated steel/mesh doors fitted. Very easy to use, and the extra stops are handy and easy to insert/remove. Used 8mm dowels, was easy to plunge the drills and felt very stable, though there looks to be a few ways you could hold the tool, so will experiment a bit more to find the most comfortable way.

Some supplies I ordered for the DD40. Still waiting for three more drill bits to arrive. The dowels are hardwood, grooved.

Another handy use for the DD today - I'm fitting bifold doors in our laundry, and the centre hinges have lugs that require two 10mm holes, spaced 32mm apart, 12mm deep, 24mm in from the edge. Easy to set up the DD for this task. First time I've used it to pencil marks, no problem at all. Dust collection is great, with a 36mm hose.

![]() So I just got my hands on a Hoffmann pds 32. From what others have said I was expecting a 700w machine but it's not.
