Thanks guys. I've been all over youtube watching vids on the duo dowel system. I look at my domino with disgrace. What a sweet system. My wife is going to kill me if I order one of these...
Where's the "shaking angry fist" smiley. This forum is going to be hard on my wallet!

I didn't save any, I just was watching someone use the index rail. I see it can be used for 32mm spaced shelf pins. I was using my bosch FSN rail and the DD would be so much slicker.
I also like the indexing off the pins, like the old domino. Not like the paddles on my newer one.
Just lots of neat stuff over the domino

How is the DD better than the Domino? I know the DD will work for shelf pins and the Domino won't, what else?
I have both Dominos and I love them. I have had zero issues with either the machines or the dominoes themselves so I'm having trouble understanding how the DD can be so superior. Just curious.

I don't think one is better its more about the job at hand and ease of use for that task. I have both the domino and DD40. I prefer the DD40 and will use it if possible. It has a lot to do with what your familiar with and for me thats the Mafell. I think the best setup is the DD40 and 700 domino. Add the Lamello biscuit joiner and you have everything covered. Problem is thats around $4K once its all said and done.

As Jalvis stated, different for different tasks. I LOVE my 500. It's all I know. But I was doing shelf pins last night and paid more then the difference in tooling for that to get the DD. I would have opted for the 700 and the DD. And the ability to index off it's last hole would be really nice I have used the 500 in that capacity but you need to either open up the holes or be REALLY careful with the placement on your lines. To careful for me.

Cool. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. This has been on my list for awhile and really like the rail for alignment.

I can only speak for myself and the range of work that I do. I do timber frames to stairways built ins and furniture also doors Dd doweling machine is not better than the domino but it does many things the domino does not for me. Drilling shelve pins 2at a time really I have a cheap delta machine that does 13 holes at a pull. Dd for is best for putting dowels indexed over an over where you need them narrow stock stair balustrades on on. The domino small and large both have strong places in my shop and onsite making my job easier an faster. I think that all three machines are key for furniture doors cabinets there are many work a rounds in woodworking. Having more systems in place makes better products easier in less time. I would not say one way of doing something right or wrong as the old joke says "Ask 10 woodworkers one question you 13 answers" If you can only have one the 700 is the most handy range of apps IMO Heres some pics of a timberframe stairway I'm doing this week will have more later

Very nice, R Cash. Love that router and set-up. I have both Dominos and use them both - I use the small one all the time and probably a bit more, but the large one for bigger pieces is a real time saver over traditional M&T or routing mortises. I have considered the DD40 as well for pin holes and to speed box construction - I think it would be faster than Dominos in that application and dowels are much cheaper to buy than Dominos.

I have the older Domino 500 which has the same pin system as the DD40. Really like that feature.
The DD40 can do shelf pins but a dedicated machine is far better. I really like the pin function for cabinets that are already installed and need adjustable shelving. Have even added pin shelving to installed built-ins.

Mr tool junkie You have good taste that router makes short work of everything the template helps a little. In my shop case assembly is pocket screws castle ts21 great machine I attach face frame as well with it. For shelve pins I have entry level 13 spindle delta bench top drill press. DD40 does only furniture grade work for me I admit my domino 700 gets used a lot more ,but I would not ever want to give up my Dd just another arrow in the quiver more the better IMO. I have a lot of specialized tools that I don't use every day sometimes I am onsite for weeks. Shop tools just collect dust but they are there when they are needed.

This question probably doesn't belong here but I'll ask anyway. If you use the pin on the DD what is set back to the first hole?

R-cash- I know you already mentioned at the bottom of your post that you will add more pics later of your stair build. Don't forget cause I am looking forward to seeing that one. Everyone who has that OF2200 seems to love it.

Everyone who has that OF2200 seems to love it. I think that the OF2200 is one of the best, if not the best, hand-powered tools made - it is that good. It has been my long term favorite, but that list is getting crowded now with the Domino XL, KSS80 and P1CC - might have a four way tie at the moment, LOL. But if I could only have one router, this one would be it without a doubt. Extremely precise, well balanced, smooth, powerful and adaptable. It is a beast, but nimble on its feet and can tackle anything you throw at it. Highly recommend it...
