Looking at purchasing some rails to cut 4'x8' sheets. Would it be better to purchase mafell a 10.2' f310 rail or purchase (2) 5.2' f160 rails with the connecting piece. Reason being with the mt 55 cc kit you get a f160 guide rail and it is cheaper to buy another f160 with a connector piece.
does the connector feel strong enough to do the 8' cuts? Or would the single 10' rail do better.

the connector is secure, simple to use, and automatically straightens your rails. for transportation purposes I say go with two rails and a connector

I second Ghostfist. Joining rails is quick, dead easy and reliable every time. I'll also add a question: have you taken a look at the AeroFix rail yet? Depending on the type of sheet goods you do, this thing can be a huge time/money saver.

I've had a keen eye on the aero fix but still have a few unanswered questions about it. For instance I don't believe you could use it effectively on an 8' rip. It would be cool for doing plunges on vertical material though where clamps aren't an option.

Ghost fist and Jonathan thank you for your replies. I will go with the two pieces. More versatility.
as for the aero fix, I would love to use one but I can not find it on timberwolf's website. Curious what that costs.

I'll have the Aerofix in my hands tomorrow so I should be able to help out with questions. The kit sells for $291.50 which includes a 130cm guide rail. I'm told there's no issue with using the vacuum clamping when joined to another rail. The only possible problem is with the included flexi vacuum hose that attaches to the tool. David wasn't sure if the included hose was long enough to use when ripping an 8ft sheet. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Good choice with the connector and two pieces. I have some longer Festool rails that range from 8-12 feet. They are a real pain to navigate. Now that I have the Mafell rails with connector I haven't used the Festool rails in years. Still trying to sale some of those long rails......kinda stuck with'em.

by coincidence I got the 3.1m rail and aerofix set last week,i didn't really need the long rail as I have three 1.6m mafell rails(all three fit in the rail bag) plus a 1.6m bosch rail which I got cheap and intend to use for 'experiments'. I got the long rail for ripping sheet material, some of our sheets coming 3m long here(U.K.),but joining two 1.6 rails is both handy, strong and dead straight for ripping. on the subject of the aerofix, according to warnings on the box it is only meant to be used at a maximum angle of 45 degrees so couldn't be used for vertical cuts, the flexi hose only stretches out to a maximum of about 1.83m(6 ft.) so couldn't be used for 8ft. rips even if used in conjunction with a longer rail(aerofix rail is 1.3m/51"). I suspose it would be possible to rig up something and join two flexi hoses or buy another brand of suitable hose but as far as I know mafell don't offer a longer flexi hose. I was also dismayed to find that my festool 27mm hose end connector will not fit over the aerofix ports so again something would have to be altered or rigged up to work.

I'd link but my internet is screwy here in the studio yes you are correct,i was wrong there is a longer hose,1m long, extending to 3.2m apparently,(part no. 205276).that would mean with a longer rail the aerofix system could be used for ripping 8ft. sheets of mfc for instance.

I'm curious as to how good suction would be across that length
