Calidecks, so the package you bought from Tobias includes the 230v charger? Or did you get the bare tool for that price? Just wondering if I have to budget for buying the 120v charger from someone else (I don't currently run the Bosch battery platform), which would of course affect the final bottom line cost of the tool.. I am in Southern CA, so my costs would be identical to yours, I would think.
The idea of a cordless circ saw for roofing is so appealing.. but the idea of spending $1500+ on a sidewinder that might be obsolete in a couple years as battery tech improves (and still hearing reports of gutless cordless saw performance in wet or pressure treated wood) gives me second thoughts.. Obviously you do enough work to make those concerns moot.

Obviously you do enough work to make those concerns moot. Yes, I had to purchase a Bosch charger separately from Amazon. The reason I'm safely assuming the kss60 36b should be plenty powerful enough, due to how powerful the kss40 is. It powers through 2x quite easily. The only problem is the depth of cut. So I purchased the 60 36v which is probably more powerful due to the voltage. I should be getting it tomorrow so I can give a better review of it. Here's the price invoice.

I'd also add that the majority of my framing lumber is .40 ACQ. which, as you probably already know is very wet.

I walk high balconies most of the time across joists and the convenience of cordless is a lifesaver, literally. Here's an example of me using the smaller kss40 18v to cut tails. This particular deck is getting a waterproof membrane and the joists will never get wet, is the reason it's not Pressure treated.

Hi Cali, glad you got your new saw (and shame about the box, but glad Tobias is making you whole). Looking forward to hearing your work report - especially if you start cutting big stuff with it.. As you know, worm drive is king here in the West, so any saw without it is bound to be ridiculed in my crew (especially one that "costs $1K just because you need a guide to cut a straight line" - though of course everyone wants to borrow my MT55..)
Thanks for the pics of you cutting the joists.. I'd forgotten that the 40 could just squeak 2X lumber. Can you get through a whole day on one battery doing that kind of cutting?
The other saw I was considering for these tasks up in the air was the 7-1/4" Milwaukee M18 fuel, which seems to be everywhere at about $250 (bundled with the 9.0 amp hour battery that normally goes for $200, so the saw is like $50). Can't remember if it's this forum but some have panned these motors for breaking down, but I run several of the drills/impacts/sawzalls and so far they work great (knock wood). I might still get it just for the hell of it while I'm contemplating the Mafell purchase..
Anyway, the real gist of my original question upthread was, since you had to get a new 120 charger anyway, does Tobias offer a "bare tool" option (i.e. with all the accessories but without a battery and charger)? I mean, the German charger is of no use to me here.. I suppose I could even have done without the big red box (welded or not), as I've switched to systainers anyway. Apologies if I should be asking these questions to Tobias, though maybe he's watching this thread.. It's hard to navigate his site through google translate (didn't they used to have an "English" button?). He has an option labeled "PURE", which I'm thinking corresponds to the US "bare" option, and it's less euros.. ?
I'm assuming we came to the conclusion that these things could run on US-bought Metabo (40) and Bosch (60) batteries? If so, I would buy the bare tool option abroad and have an excuse to buy some cordless Metabo/Bosch kit just for the batts and chargers; I need a new grinder.. and jigsaw.. and SDS hammer drill, lol.

You won't get a kss60 in a systainer. As you probably know, it's really not about not being able to cut a straight line, it's about cutting better and faster. The same argument I get about the track saw. I've been a carpenter for 32 years without a track saw, but a track saw cuts better and faster. If I was framing homes I would certainly use my wormdrive. I come from 400 homes tracts in my younger years to monster customs later on. There's times I could use the track saw and cross cut saws, but my go to would still be my wormdrive. With that said, most of my framing is all exposed and needs to be extremely tight and clean. That's the difference. I can cut tight and clean with a wormdrive, but the crosscut saws just are better, that's the bottom line. I'll certainly give a full report on it.

I realize the KSS track won't fit, but the 60 itself doesn't fit in any size systainer?

I'm hoping to light'n up my 60. Would this battery work as good as the larger one? Obviously runtime will be less, but power is what I'm going for.
