What are you planning on doing with this bad boy? They seem to have all the right features but it's too much for my range of work.

I dunno... Thinking of timber frame Haus... In the interim using it like a drill press.
Well I ordered a couple of corded Kress drills from Amazon.de . The smaller one looked like an electric A10M, but the 90-degree fitting does not fit the A10M. Also ordered 3 of the Metabo 1/4 quick change chuck adapters. The are like the centrotec jobs but for Mafell/Metabo . They work great. The larger Kress has 2 speeds and the 43-mm collar to fit in the ubiquitous 43-mm holders... Like the Borer station. And it was 230v and cheaper than the Bunnings Makita jobs, so I'll put on the Aus plugs or a Neutric.

The Mafell drilling station there is way more badass than my old Portalign jig with the guides towards the bottom to minimize deflection and with the insane depth plunge capability. Looks like it also has a fence system and template guides... Definitely hardcore as a drill press if you want it as just a drill press. Why not start with aluminum extrusions and a DIY assembly for the "drill press" first? Could also use linear motion guide rods too, just have a machinist put two holes into an aluminum plate, tap them (yourself) and use a threading die on the guide rods. Optionally three slots on a sub assembly above and you can attach ball bearings as a form of drill guide to prevent deflection towards the tip where the drilling occurs.

This drill stand got my creative juices flowing, that's why i got it. Probably overkill for an amateur like me, but thanks to some tax refund i'm able to indulge.. Bugger comes assembled, so all i had to do was to choose a drill bit and i was set up. The stand itself is pretty self-explanatory, it's got a collar for the 43mm euro 'neck', you set in the drill with the drillbit, open the guide according to the diameter of the drill, adjust the angle and ..drill. So far so good. The guide takes drill diameters from 8mm to 30mm or even bigger if one does remove the drillguide. Now, for the drill length: I'm afraid the stand works best with 460mm long auger bits.320mm gives you about 10cm drilling depth, 235mm about 2cm. So, it's a machine you'll be using for substantial wood, nothing for diminuitive carpentry. Build quality as usual. One accessory you ought to consider buying is the guide fence, handling becomes much easier with it if you work on 'by 2' material.

Thought about a small table. But then i got cats and they're sure to wreck it. Next will prolly be a rack for wood and guiderails.

Folx, if you're getting a BST, be sure not to be so stingy as not to buy it with the parallel guide.

It´s so easy with the parallel guide, so remember to buy it, it is 1/2 of a BST.
I got the S460:o)

What about the other 2 things that go with it?

I think if you're not doing production-style work , you can get by without them. They're for making templates. The BST as a set was/is quite a lot more expensive, that's why i haven't considered it.
