Hi Everyone,
New member here, though I've been lurking for awhile. I work as a remodeler in the Boston area (USA). I've been interested in Mafell tools for a few years and finally pulled the trigger on a KSS40 (imported through Tobias) and a P1cc (from Timberwolf). Many thanks to everyone here for running a great board and sharing your experiences. I'm guessing I read about 80% of all the posts here before committing to a purchase... this site has been a great resource.
First impression of the KSS40: LOVE IT!
I wanted the KSS300 for awhile but the presence of a cord and lack of a brake were a deal breaker. Once I read about this little guy I was completely sold. I got my first use out of it this morning and I'm totally impressed. Great power, all the controls are easy to use, dust collection is great with the bag, the saw works well with and without the track. I even like the protection circuitry that stops the blade when you do something dumb. My only minor, minor (minor) quibbles would be that the squarish shape of the handle is a little uncomfortable in my hands, and it would be great if the dust bag had a zipper or some velcro on the back to make it easier to empty.
I'm really looking forward to using this thing some more. Hopefully I'll remember to take some pics along the way and post them up here.
-Matt

Matt, Welcome to the forum. If you don't mind my asking, where abouts are you in the Boston area? I lived in Natick, for many years, did a lot of work in Metro West with a few clients in Brookline, Chestnut Hill & Beacon Hill.

Hi John,
I live in Maynard and work mostly inside route 128. Our company is based in Newton. I had a girlfriend in Natick a long time ago so I know that place pretty well.
On a side note I just found the 'General' section of the site with the introductions page. Guess I should have started there! Will post up more soon.

Hey Matt, Welcome. I do the same thing and have learned plenty here! Tobias is a great help with these purchases and a pleasure to deal with. The 40 is a great saw. I was a little tentative ditching the 300 for a cordless saw but now love it. Battery life is great. Dustbag option also great. Standard tloc systainer also a plus. I worked on some epoxy coated panels for these some bleachers in a hotel yesterday. Did about 25 rips and about 40 crosscuts in 2x4 and panels. Very, very happy with the saw and it stays in my toolbox in my truck full time. Attachments:

That picture brings back my commercial days of installed lockers, gun safe cages and antibacterial wall protection in hospitals! Bring all your stuff with you, spread it out to work and then take your PPE off and put it to the side! I couldn't stand wearing helmets, glasses and gloves or finish work like that.

My life is generally spent in retail construction. Malls, etc. The PPE has its place - especially the glasses and gloves. However the hard hats are ridiculous when there is no overhead hazard. The cleaning people where there vacuuming without hard hats - imagine!

It's on of those loop hole rules. It's states hard hats should be worn when risk of falling objects to the head and if the only risk is from a fall doesn't need to be ,unless it's in policy to be worn at all times whether thier is a risk or not

Luzzy I got some of those gloves, they're AWESOME. They're everything I wanted the Maxiflex "Elite" to be, but I was disappointed with those. They're cheaper too. Thanks!

Picked up the 18V KSS40 today and will put it to work tomorrow laying some click flooring. First impression is that it feels solid, just like the KSS300. Batteries were flat so on charge at the moment. I have had the KSS300 for quite some time and my main nitpick has been the lack of a blade brake. If the 18V is as good as, I might part with the KSS300 but for the time being it is merely "shelved". I have plenty of blades and rails so at least I had some invested in the system already. I did cringe at the asking price for the 18V but got a discount on it and I was thinking that the KSS300 is my most used saw so at least I will get some mileage out of it. I do have the KSS60cc (corded) and while it is an awesome saw I have only used it a few times as of yet. They will double up on a kitchen build this week - together with the P1cc. Already thinking of what other 18V options I have. I am seriously thinking of replacing my Carvex 420 with a Metabo 18V. Took me five minutes to release and refit a single blade on the Carvex... Festool original blade too. I literally hate the Carvex. Expensive crap for sure. Love some of my other Festools but the Carvex is going - good riddance!

Ok, ran the KSS40 through some floorpanels today - just as nice as I had hoped it to be. Did not hook it up to a Vac and thought the dustbag did OK. For flooring it is a real winner! Blade brake and no cord was bliss. I don't think I need to keep the KSS300 around anymore.
