Great insight. Thanks Scot. I think you're right on the cumbersome note. I did purchase the angle fence for the F rail as well and now that you mention it I don't know why it wouldn't even be nicer on the table with the holes and a set of parf dogs.
Bottom line is I really need to just start using the saws and see where it takes my work flow and what I need to do to improve it.

I used the MFT tables with the flip-up rail for a couple years and it worked okay, but I did find it to be in the way sometimes, not always 100% accurate and admittedly it fell on me a couple of times.
I have a small shop and have 3 MFT's fastened together. This came to be over time, if I was to start fresh I would just buy 3 MFT tops and build my own base, saving a pile of cash...
I use 1" Styrofoam as a protective layer for the initial breakdown of sheet goods and after that I remove the foam and use rail dogs for the remaining cuts. I should take pics or a video but suffice it to say that I get very accurate repeat cuts with free access all around the table. I have no intention of every re-installing the MFT hardware, I don't miss it at all.
My Mafell tools and tracks are all used on site, my shop work is still all Festool (and I'm happy with that, I see no need to change it) the only thing F guides would require is compatibility with rail dogs.

What about something like this?

That looks like a good idea too. You can see the sag over the length of it, but if it sat on a frame of sorts and there were two tops for an increased work surface it would be very serviceable.

I think Kreg's t-bolts fit the slot so you can probably use that with rail dogs and QWAS dogs.

Looking at the rail - it appears that I can reduce the overhangs a bit for use with an MT55 cc when mounting on an MFT-3 ? Just ordering the Bosch FSN rails and looking at the 1600-mm and then cutting it back to ~950-mm. Thoughts? Tim's roller setup looks like something I want to try for the MFT. www.benchworks.be/mftc.htmlanyone do that with the MFT/3 ? Randal

The 110cm rail is just about the perfect length for an MFT/3 in my opinion.

For anyone looking to try this today, the T-slot bolts Kreg makes are not guaranteed to fit the Mafell track. You will more than likely need to grind or file them down in order to get them to slip down into the ~1.5mm deep slot.

I did it a couple of years back and they fit. I still have a few left... Somewhere... I saw them a few months back.

I bought a package of 25 directly from Kreg less the 12 months ago and they did not fit without grinding.

How long does the set up stay accurate, if you use the metal tab on the Festool bracket? I've ordered a 'basic' MFT with the cross braces and I already have the hinge/bracket parts. I'll be using my own fence & flip stops, and building my own extension table. Is it worth exploring other options to replace the tab, or just file it to fit the f rail and get started?
