As a note, the Mafell S-35M extractor is the updated model with 157 cfm. Metabo has integrated the new updated Starmix model with 157 cfm as well, Metabo ASR 35 ACP HEPA vacuum. I had heard that Metabo was updating their vac as well, good to hear it’s in effect! A note of caution though, buyers would want to make sure they’re getting the updated version (or getting a discount on the older 130 cfm version), being aware of whether they’re receiving the HEPA version or not, and I believe that the Metabo is still shipping with a non-anti static hose. The benefit of the Mafell version is that you’re guaranteed to get the updated motor, HEPA filters, and anti static hose. Very good point. HEPA is easy to distinguish by the box model. But the antistatic hose definitely does not come with the Metabo. I bought a red Nilfisk hose for mine. Now I really want the updated model.. Ugh.

If it helps, the older version of the Metabo came out on top in a recent review of dust extractors that meet the requirements for OSHA Table 1 compliance (HEPA filtration, automatic filter cleaning, etc...), so it’s certainly not chopped liver, I guess the best just keep getting better? www.protoolreviews.com/tools/power/dust-extraction/metabo-dust-extractor-review/34892/

I wouldn't put too much clout behind their words. They are pay to play for companies and usually don't do a great job of being real. The Starmix is a fantastic vac. I know that. Also to note. The Bosch dust extractors with autoclean and the Fein Turbo X are both fantastic, made by Karcher. The new Bosch 300 cfm HEPA extractor is the same as the Hilti 300 cfm, both made by Karcher.

Karcher makes a lot of budget cleaning products but also makes a fair bit of heavy duty commercial equipment.
They make a really nice vacuum. My Fein Turbo II has 151 cfm, ~96" static water lift and 67 dB rating. Not bad for a $350 vac.

Well the archer vac I go from Bunnings lasted 3 days. It was the budget model.

Sorry Randal. Had a bit of a quiet snigger when I read that post! When you put the words "budget" & "Bunnings" together you're all but guaranteed premature failure. Can you put a better Domel or some other quality motor in it? I presume the motor failed.... insufficient cooling? ... inadequate motor cooling air filtration? Anyway, I hope you got your money back!

Not exactly, they complained that it looked used. I said, "I got it so I could use it." I left it in the trolley outside of Bunnings, Albany and went to the local Festool dealer and got a CT26. That CT26 ended up getting the water sensor go daggy , but it got fixed under warrenty. ... Had a semi-homeless fellow rock up today and put him on a needle scaler for 5 hours. He left with a fit full of beer-exchange notes, and I took to the rims with acetone and galvanizing zinc paint. Luckily I found the spare bags as the bag was choca-block full from the last 6 months, as I then took out the vacuum and used it on the driveway for all the paint and rust debris.

Interested to hear about these updates to the Metabo and Mafell extractors - presumably bringing them up to scratch with the new Starmix models. No sign of these (the Mafell and Metabo) in the U.K. though?
Although I have the new Starmix, and very happy with it, now looking for an additional smaller run around and hoping Mafell or Starmix would upgrade their smaller 25 litre models with iPulse. Doesn't look like that's going to happen in the short term though.

Just picked up a new Starmix iPulse 1635 H with a good bundle of accessories - very impressive, makes my Festool vac appear to not be working by comparison... it will be getting sold. Automatic filter cleaning is a lot noisier than I thought it would be, and as it is the 'H' model, it has a slightly annoying alarm when the hose is blocked... I use the Mirka hand sanding block which comes with a 20mm flexible hose - the Starmix has decided that this is a blockage and so beeps at me permanently... would like to find a way around that - otherwise no complaints.

Can you screw down the power a tad? I'm pretty sure there's a "hose diameter" control knob on the front which acts as a sort of de facto power control. 1.6kw is just bullshit excessive for a hand sanding block. Otherwise, the only other way is to introduce a bypass air bleed into the suction to stop that restricted airflow sensor alarm.

The hose diameter knob only works to a point - even set on the right hose size, adding a Starmix accessory sets it of beeping. Unfortunately, the hose knob is not a power control, I'm guessing it wouldn't have it's 'H' rating if it could be turned down...

Hi guys, I have Starmix 1635 "M" and only way how to avoid annoying beeping is turn the knob to the 27 diameter+higher power. Suction power is the same but the sensitivity is lower. And cleaning the filters occasionaly helps as well :-)

On the 'H' there is not a power and hose selection knob - just hose selection. The only manual mode is 'IR' with filter cleaning - it really doesn't like the Mirka sanding block!
