I now have the Bosch clamps and they are excellent, the Mafell clamps just don't work very well with their limited reach and small handles. Jack They do work well. They are just not part of red "the system". Right but I do have a "Red" Woodpeckers 26" Square to set the rail before clamping with the Bosch Clamps.

I liked your post not that I liked that your clamp broke, only that you shared. Cheers, Dude

Bummer dude! How about welding the black clamp bar directly to the "feather key"........reworked a photo from the Bosch site.

I could weld it. I'll see what I can find for bolts first. I don't think the design is a problem, it's just the hardware they used.

Does the "feather key" pivot on that pin? Can you take the whole assembly off the bar of the clamp?
I dunno, that little key still seems like something we should be able to make ourselves. Even if it was made of wood I'd think there'd be enough clamping pressure to hold.. I don't think you really want that thing too strong anyway - couldn't that eventually mess up the soft aluminum slot?
I like the IDEA of the "holey rail"(which would not be easy to make) so I guess I'm still interested in the OFA kit. But that clamp itself doesn't seem that impressive to me.

I loved the clamp right up until it broke (well I broke it to be fair), It worked really well. Clamped hard etc.
The silver assembly unit is held on with two roll pins. Not sure why, but it seems like an overly complicated mechanism. It doesn't move at all. It's just the screws. And maybe you can't get a screw with more meat on the head, but I think you can.

Hey, Brad. I just started a thread about this very issue. What did you finally do about getting your clamp back into operation? Both of ours are broken, so this has suddenly become a priority for us...Help a brother out, your Dudeness.

I couldn't find any machine screws that size so I ended up tapping the holes a little bigger and used an allen head bolt. I needed to file the top of the bolt to get it to sit flush. Pretty simple once you find a bolt that will work.
It's an M3 metric thread. Not that common but any bolt supply will be able to order them. My prob was I was going to be $25 min order plus I am 2.5 hours away so as they say, I "farmer fixed" it and made due with what I had.

Oh, and the broken bolts are a bit tricky to get out. They are loctited in place and either need patients or a bit of heat (or both) to get out. I ended up filing the shoulder that was sticking out square with a file and then grabbed onto them with a set of side cutters and slowly twisted them out. This is the type of bolt I replaced them with (not this size) www.alibaba.com/product-detail/flat-head-countersunk-socket-cap-screw_157054382.html

It's raining sideways today, so I pushed paperwork all day. Losing those clamps is like someone stealing your rug, though, Dude.

M3 ... In USA, McMaster. About $5 for 100, plus tax and shipping, no minimum. Not the cheapest though but I get stuff next day. Returns are easy, just ship back. No commercial account needed like Grainger.
