Hmm, ironically, having commented on the inclusion of a rip blade on what is sold as a cross-cut saw, I managed to find out how fragile the blades are by hitting a screw. Even more ironically I'm the stupid ass who put the screw there. All teeth are now chipped and it is noticeably harder cutting full depth through oak.
Any good, but cheaper options than the Mafell blade and is there any real difference between a 235mm blade instead of 237mm?

Depth of cut is the only difference and of course the kerf could be different. The rip blades are not all that expensive. If depth is not an issue then Festool or Tenryu blades can be used as well with the 30mm arbor.

For some reason the Mafell blades are very hard to get in the UK and 3 times more expensive than most other 235mm ones, it's actually a lot cheaper buying them from Germany and paying £15 in postage!!

Can you find another brand for a good price and have them re-bored for the KSS?

I have not been able to find any blades sized 237mm - it is an odd size. I wish the saw took 238mm as that would clear 4x without any slivers.

Looks like Metabo also has a KS85 saw. Maybe there blades are cheaper.

I am not sure how much clearance there is - I will have to see if I can measure it next time I am in the shop - but since Mafell makes 237mm my guess is that they do not allow for a bigger blade to account for any tolerance issues and to clear the sawdust and chips effectively. Maybe timber outside of NA is sized so that this machine adequately cuts the equivalent of 4x material.

Australian Vernacular: 1) In Australia the smallest unit of measure is referred to as a "bee's dick" (hereafter referred to as a "BD" for "Apis Correctness" hereafter referred to as being 'AC'). 2) Ergo means "Therefore". Ergo... The radius difference between 237 and 238 is 1/2-mm, which is about a "BD" difference.

I went the "buy from Germany" route, hoping I'm not going to leave any more screws in the way . I would think 238mm wouldn't make any noticeable difference, but short of an intensive search I'm only seeing 235mm blades and few if any rip ones (okay, being lazy here). The UK really is rubbish for tools. The only main issue I can see with swopping blades is the clearance on the riving knife. Can't see the BD difference on 238 being an issue there.

Thanks!! Do you think that this is the same company that supplies Mafell? Prices are similar to US pricing.
