Smoother materials will require clamping. I usually add some downward pressure with my free hand on the track when making a pass, particularly at the start and finish of a cut to prevent slipping

I found that I also needed to hold the track in place but for long rip cuts on 8' ply that gets a bit cumbersome. The clamps work fine but, with my older assembly table I need deeper clamps, do you know if they sell clamps with greater clamping opening say 6 or 8" opening?

Second Impressions;
Spoke with David at Timberwolf today and he suggested that I speak with Festool about the CT22 plug in receptacle. Checked with Festool Repair folks and they mentioned that given the age of my dust extractor I should look at the receptacle by making sure I was getting good contact with the Mafell Saw plug. Sure enough by paying attention to that connection and making sure that I didn't pull on the saw cord while cutting there is no problem with the saw cutting out. The Festool repair folks suggested that I replace the receptacle on the CT22 which I'll do.
I ripped up a bunch of 1/2" Baltic Birch with great cut edges. Until I zero in the plunge depth I used the cardboard boxes layer flat on top of my MFD top and all is well.
I sent the Bosch quick release clamp model number and part number to see if they can order them from their Bosch distributor, I'll let you all know if we can get them from Timberwolf.
Overall the MT55 is not as loud as I thought it might be, it is also lighter and slides in the track really smoothly. I'll find out how powerful it is when I straight edge some 6/4 hardwood.

Looks like neither the FSN rails with the holes, nor the clamps are available in Au. So I suspect it is easiest to get them straight from the old country, and I'll probably until I need them. Or I will bring a 1/2 slab to my friend with the milling machine, and drill a set into a rail.

If cutting lots of this type of material I think that the Aerofix would be a great accessory.

Its pricey, but the Aerofix is the best accessory for track saws since sliced bread.

How's the saw working out for you Jacko? I love the saw and I just got the Bosch quick release clamps that will work much better than the Mafell clamps. Between my MT55 and my table saw I'm getting much more efficient in my shop. I just started a kitchen for my son's house using quartered sawn white oak and breaking down the sheet goods is so much better than in the past. I'll post some pictures as I get along in the project. Jacko- Where are you located? I am guessing not N. America. I would like to get the bosch quick clamps but I don't think they have them in NA.
Quarter sawn white oak is awesome, look forward to pictures.

Quarter sawn white oak is awesome, look forward to pictures. After the local group said not available in Australia, I had Lincoln get me a set from Tobias at www.elektrowerkzeug-shop.net. I ended up ordering a router through Dictum as they had the last one I could find and Tobias was out. I got the kit which included a set of clamps... www.dictum.com/en/tools/power-tools/routing/704884/bosch-fsn-ofa-32-kit-800Tobias can do those 32-mm kits as well, so if you do not need a Hol ey Grail , and do not need the router attachment, and do not need the protractor-deal, then just get the clamps. I usually need to email Tobias their website seems harder for me to navigate. The last message from Lincoln was "those clamps are great" and he is keeping them, so it seems that they may be worthwhile to have? A group buy is probably the easiest/best way and get a few into North America, which also spreads out the shipping cost. I suspect you can off load them easily. Alternatively I have some red handled Mafell ones for sale.

Just to clarify - I offered to give holmz his money back, and I'll keep the clamps, because he had a pair coming with the router set.

Also my rails are still on the Honda 50, somewhere behind Parkes, so I told you to keep them for the moment. Maybe this is wood-Karma. But exposing the truth looses all dramatic effect. I'll chuck you an email on the morrow... Or wednesday... As I am watching Julia Zamira at the moment.
