I hardly use a dado set in a portable unit. My portable Bosch allows for a dado set but after 5 years I'm yet to use it. I find routers and templates to be better suited.
Seems like a lot to pay for the Dewalt. Any other options?

Yes it is a lot half of the cost would be postage and customs so would really be paying €500 just for the dado I don't have Any other table saw or the space for a bigger one but I do find it a lot quicker especially for small pieces drawers and the likes and the dewalt rack and pinion is very good. Maybe I should try using the router for a wile and see if I get happy'er doing it that way

A youtube video of an easy exact width dado jig to be used with a router. I agree with Jalvis- It would be nice to either save the amount on that DeWalt. I have a small dewalt table saw that I like a lot but that is a lot to pay. If it saves a lot of time in your work the cost can be worth it though.

Are there any portable units in your area that offer a Dado option?

No that's the real problem thanks to the eu as fare as I know the saw must have a brake on the blade and because of that the extra weight of a dado stack could open the nut on stopping so they don't allow it. I could look for a old one that would have it I don't really want to go down that road

Thanks for the link it would do the job all right and give more options but it would still work out about €850 and I still would need to get a small table saw with the € down the toilet at the minute there are no easy options. I guess most guys in Europe are just using routers on less they have a big shops

I guess most guys in Europe are just using routers on less they have a big shops I find myself in these awkward situations often based on my size of business. We aren't big enough to justify the true production methods/ large tools but do too much volume to get by with the basic time consuming inexpensive options. It's a hard position to be in. I don't have any great advice or solutions but I can relate to the predicament. The other problem I would have in using a portable table saw for dado's is the fact that most of the fences only go out to about 2 feet, not enough for a book case etc. The dewalt might just be worth the ridiculous cost if you are only working with material like cabinet boxes that are 4 feet or less in height. Tools pay for themselves if they increase productivity very much...the labor is much more expensive than the tools over time.

It a bitch as they say I am a one man show and most of my work is site work so can make it even harder to be set up for a small present of what I do that's life I would not use a table saw for dados on long goods really only for 2' down as you say I don't mind using the router for the long ones thanks for the input
