From what I understand, metabo quick fixing system is just a touch smaller than centrotec. Thus the centrotec chuck will fit on metabo drills but metabo will not fit on festools. You are right!

I have for a long time fancied getting the festool drills cause of the different chucks and having a shorter body length than my current hilti cordless. The only thing that has put me off is being locked into the centrotec. With the new drills offering exchangeable chucks and able to use standard hex bits. Which can easily be bought anywhere. It makes any of the other alternatives very tempting

Festool were first with the brushless motors and interchangeable chucks. Now others are doing it better. Evolution.

The festool PRC and fein drills have the advantage of 4 gears and high speed of 3800+. The guy who got the festool chucks to fit the fein drill did have to do a bit of filing and modification to get them to work. The pdc and fein almost have identical front sections with very similar teeth pattern to allows angle chuck to be locked on in different positions.
Festool will never have the better hex locking stubs as it would mean the death of the centrtec. Now that other brands have started producing fastfix chucks with locking stubs for regular standard hex bits I feel it will effect sales of centrotec system. I bet they regret not sticking to standard hex bits.

Pdt is a faster drill in the highest gear but the metabo has more torque.

Yes PRC only has 60Nm torque and one of the metabolism drillsxhave 105Nm. Fein has 90. A festool rep told me that the Pdc had been tested to 80Nm and could go further.
Milwaukee's 12v drill has a great feature of being able to attach the chuck her a hex bit in the stub which I like also.
One thing I don't like about the pdc is the size of festool batteries. They are a lot bigger than all the others.

As of right now, I can't get my hands on a metabo or a pdc here in the tropics of Canada. I've been waiting on the release of the pdc here for about two years. I'm ready to move on. I like the festool drills I own but can't wait to ditch centrotec and be a normal person again.

I really like my C15 for trim work, and for drilling holes the Centrotec system is VERY nice, but for general carpentry I agree that Festool really missed an opportunity to allow for use of standard Hex bits.
My interest would be to possibly hold on to my C15 for cabinet assembly and installation, but migrate to the Metabo "Quick" drill and impact driver for general carpentry....

The festool PRC and fein drills have the advantage of 4 gears and high speed of 3800+. Is this really an advantage? 3800 rpm would be great for...burning up drill bits.

3800rpm is no problem for good drillbits and small diameter, but a real advantage!

Any thoughts on the Festool TXS?

As a diehard T handle guy, I can't wait for these to become available in a NA. If they're about the same size as the CXS I'll get two and sell my CXS. Just have wait and see.

Yup, the cxs is a very handy drill. Waiting on the batteries to give on my cxs then either the txs or mafell the 10,8 drill. If they become available here.
