It'll be interesting to see how Woodworkers Journal evaluate these. I'm quite surprised and glad to see a Mafell included in a North American test! They get a thumbs up for that alone The test will be published in their october issue according to the video below.
Really looking forward to this review. Hopefully it'll be comprehensive and fair to all the tools. I'm actually really excited to see how the MT55cc stacks up in a market where Festool is the only well known and established premium brand.
Maybe one of our members here has a subscription and can share some more info on the results when it gets published...

My predictions: Festool will get "best Value" and Mafell "Best Overall."

I heard Festool won and Makita was second or best value...

That would be funny to me...I bought my MT55 after several searches comparing the Festool and Mafell on the Festool Owners Group site. There was almost complete agreement on their site that the Mafell was better. I even came across a post on Contractor Talk forum where one of the guys featured in a Festool advertisement said the Mafell was the best track saw. I like my Festool tools but that makes me wonder if the magazine is featuring a paid ad instead of an actual legit comparison.
Try doing a search for Mafell on the FOG site.

OH, I have no doubt that the Mafell is better in every regard. I really do not throw much thought into any of the magazine reviews as they are all biased to a certain audience - whether it is the reader or a tool company. Now, I have not read the article - could not find a copy of the magazine at the store yet, but someone on another forum who does subscribe gave the high level results.

if these results are true then the test was just an advert for festool. from my own experience with festool and the mafell saws the mafell is a much better saw. people out there who have used both will know this.

Try doing a search for Mafell on the FOG site. Mafell talk is pretty much banned on the FOG now, thaat's why this site is here

I personally would take the results with a pinch of salt. The only advantage I see with the festool is a bigger dealer network to me festool seems all about adding extras for the system. Where mafell seems to work on the kISS formula keep it simple and stupid

Glad this site is here. I like many of my Festool, but they are not the end all for all tools. FOG has some over-the-top zealots that have made the forum go down hill, I think. I really like that you can give honest comments here without fear of getting in trouble.

As any of you who've seen my Festool videos know ( ), I'm a big Festool supporter, their tools have really changed the way I work and contributed a great deal to my success as an independent contractor. The Festool forum has some great info, but I feel like you have to dig a bit for it. I really like the vibe here, and appreciate everything that the members have contributed! Keep up the good work fellas :-)

That is a great video, Tom. I watched it when it first came out. Now you need to shoot one showing all your Mafell goodies. I am going to try and do that when I start my fining table and chair build. It is a lot of work, so no promises. Also have to decide on my KSS saw(s) too, first.
