Tom at Tool Home has graciously agreed to place a special order of CMT bits for the DD40 for those suffering from NAINA syndrome. He has set up a product page for ordering at the following link; CMT Duo-Doweler BitsPricing is less than the Mafell equivalent and is significantly less for the larger bits. I'll let Tom weigh in on his cutoff date for the order.

ordered the CMT cutters for DD40P on January 10, 2016 through a US dealer, CMT shipped them out on 1/15/2016 from Italy via FED EX priority, and received them three days later on 1/18/2016 in San Francisco.

That's great service, shan. I've been very happy with my CMT bits.

Is 18-mm a common size for doweling? or what do you use?

The largest diameter cutter offered by both Mafell and CMT is 16mm for the DD40P. I am not familiar with the 18mm size. I do not have anything lined up to use the 16mm at the moment, however, when you need the tool it is a lot less frustrating when you have the tool at hand.

I thought it seemed like an odd size, so I think I read it wrong off the picture... Which is why I asked.
