SketchUp is great for quick 3d renders, not so great for cnc

No never got to dig into the better stuff. Receiving drawings all the time, I can tell the difference between SketchUp and AutoCAD and prefer AutoCAD. That being said, the layout component to SketchUp does a nice tidy job

3dstudio Viz & Max v.8/ lighting plug-ins Mental Ray and Vray. I prefer Mental Ray for exteriors, but the learning curve is much steeper than Vray.

Sketchup does everything I need in most of the cases.

Autodesk products are pretty good but not lightweight. Also not for non-professional workers. Sketchup is pretty awesome for me. It's supporting me as a lifesaver. It's giving a better solution for 3d drawings. Also I have a lot of presets for professional works.

It's giving a better solution for 3d drawings. Also I have a lot of presets for professional works. Still not had the time to look at Sketchup. I've got a space saver staircase to build to fit an existing space; designed in Autodesk Inventor and you can parametrically link dimensions (eg. dimension B is dimension Ax0.7 ) so as you change one, it changes other geometry. Once all is done, can produce drawings, render 3d inmage, of for really showing off designs, import to Showcase for adding backgrounds, lighting etc., here you can really start having lifelike renders - obviously not bothering with a staircase!
Having said that, I've worked alongside architects that use Sketchup and being able to share files would occasionally be handy. What are you using it for?

Sketchup sent me a notice informing they are going Subscription. Don’t use it enough to warrant the monthly. Realized long ago that most of the time a render is requested it’s only so the decision maker could visualize & approve the ‘look’. This is usually the planing stage and things can change so it’s a lot of computer work to do a CAD just to close the deal or move things along. Unless I’m supplied a drawing I instead do a quick bastardized photoshop (Pixelmator) 2D image first to get the go ahead. It’s super fast & flexible and I can charge a very small fee vs full cad if I’ve never worked with them before, which doesn’t put them off etc. It’s powerful because it is uses the actual environment they know. Sometimes I’ll knock it out on the spot letting the client choose similar images from google image. basic example:
