No, it doesn't.
The speeds on my unit are constant on each setting. I'll make a video cycling through the speed settings in a few hours when I get home. My saw is from 2012, so it's not that old. Unless they updated something in the electronics, which is possible. But somehow from what I saw in that video, it just doesn't seem right to me, regardless waht Timberwolf says.
If it were me, I'd try to get in touch with Mafell directly, show them the video, and hear what they have to say about it.

Ok, just remembering things. For us that use festool. do you remember when you just used a festool sander the first time? It was jerking all the place at lower speed. The answer from festool was let it run or use it for at least 10 hours. Everything will settle up inside of the machines, and it was true.
Jonathan, you said that your is old 2012 so it has a lot more of hours that mine or the new guys. That might be the case why yours is working better.
I will keep using it and in 2 - 3 months I will revisit to see how it does it after several hours of use. I am setting my calendar to remind me in December 1st 2013.

Another thing, Jonathan. Is your a 220V or 110V.
That could make a difference why there is a difference in the machines.

So is there anyone with 120V without any problem? Just trying to narrow it down.

I was thinking that very thing this morning. I was going to ask Jonathan what voltage he was using. I have not contacted Mafell regarding this. David from Timberwolf told me that he has talked to Mafell about this. They must be aware, but maybe not able to replicate in Germany? I might have started a controversy

No, you didn't. We talked about an issue and we will try to resolve it. There is no vendor telling us what we can say or not. Here the skies are blue, gray, dark, pink and all over the rainbow, it doesn't have to be blue all the time.
It is good to know this issue, that it won't affect me personally. I only cut wood, so no big deal, but I paid full money and I expect the saw to work for all that is advertised, even thou I don't use it.
It is like you buy a TV and the seller taell you, "Please don't tune it in channel 2 and 4. It works great in the other channels so don't get use to any movie in those channels and you are ok". No, it doesn't work for me like that.

By the way, I do have a festool sander and do not any issues with the lower speeds.

I'm guessing that the bosch track saw has the same issue

I have to agree with Jonathan it doesn't sound right it sounds like something is shorting out I personally don't have the mt55 but I have an erika 110v which has variable speeds I have recorded the different speeds and the all run constant no pulsing. When it is downloaded on to youtube I will send a link

No you're doing exactly what this site was intended for. Getting as much info as we can about these tools to which there is little English documentation. I had the same thoughts regarding burn in

Here is what my 110v erika sounds like going through the different speedshttp://m.youtube.com/my_videos#/watch?v=P_WvFP6aKyc I know it's a different saws but I would think they should sound the same going through the different speeds
