I must admit when I first saw that Mafell had released this I was thinking, too late I have the OF1010R now... having watched the video, this seems to be the perfect site router - that quick change is very cool, I assume coming from their experience in now doing CNC motors. Little extras like the track groove in the base, the pop down support foot, the height plunge lock - even using the same guide fence dimensions (we are looking at you Festool with your 'system'... 4 routers and 4 different fences!).
Available in September, I imagine in usual Mafell style with price fixing and no discounts!
Very cool looking router, tool less arbor like their high end milling motors. Makes me regret owning OF1010 with the always moving height indicator . (seems I just repeated post above in slightly different style).
How much play/give is in the plunge mechanism i. e. how far does the bit move in relation to the base*
Are the guide bushes really free of play? The Festool klick system has a little play. Yes, click it in and tighten screws (why screws?) but does it sit the same and centered perfectly every time? Lo65 has nearly a press fit still easy to get in and out.*
Dos the plastic wear noticeably? Yes you can use the universal adapter but you'd have to pay extra and you still pay for the plastic
The dust port is plain 29 mm painted. Festool hoses will fit but are hard to put on (probably less pain than Festools bayonet), I assume the hose won't come off that easy. Never really had issues with the Mafell hose (on Mafell machines, its to wide for 27 mm ports). The question is if its a pain to put the hose on and if it really holds.
How far does the collet plunge deeper than the base? 55 mm is not much plunge depth to begin with. When using templates and small bits it really helps if the collet can plunge much deeper than the base. However longer bits might sick out to begin with.
A few plus points:
Fence compatible with Lo65, very nice
Tool less change of bits, great
Inserts for better dust extraction, one has to see how they actually work
Light (Never really missed it since I'm usually working with guides and stops but I think its a nice to have bonus)
The integrated support bar
Fits the rail directly
About the de-boost, I've not hat issues so far. I'm always on the highest speed, the only time I get burn marks i in edges, when I move slow. I do not have a lot of experience with different wood types. But for now it seems like a gimmick. Anyone have experience with that?
I wish I could fine adjust the depth when already plunged.
* that are the reasons I'm using the Lo65, even for small bits
I'll get one when it is finally available, September I think. I'll be sure to post here about what I think about it. Slight concerns about the plastic guide bushes and fence, but I have a couple of other compatible fences I can use with it.
Was using of1010 today and as usual the depth guide tab was displaced so lost height reference. Am I making too much of that? Lot of the time my hand or something else catches on the tab so wondering if it happens on most routers.
Looking at video again that depth guide looks far superior, except not sure if there is any micro adjustment which is a pity as use that quite often. It’s probably using that plastic screw end near the stop so x revolutions per .mm which isn’t as easy as of1010 but acceptable compromise. (edit: yep its one turn per mm produkte.mafell.de/media/pdf/5b/58/a9/lo55_170633_0223_a.pdf )
Really tempted by this machine even though I shouldn’t get it

abdon: I stand corrected , the angle fence is only attaches with F -Tracks , what confused me was , that the Timberwolf site mentioned it will work with the NFU machine, yes it will work but only I guess when you use the Ftrack , with other tracks Like the KSS L.

glynnco: Did you order from GereedschapPro? I see them as in stock but I'm located in the US and am not sure if they ship here. I sent them an email asking about shipping but it was returned undeliverable...

jonathan: I've purchased a lot of stuff from our neighbours @ GereedschapPro.nl As far as I know they are one of the larger Mafell dealers in the EU. I can recommend them, they usually respond quickly.

lasse: Thanks for the tip! I have own a mafell rail which is 160 cm and one that is 80 cm. Will it work just as well or will I need to buy rail that is 110 cm?
