Hey everyone! Just curious your thoughts on this - I have a Mafell MT55cc that needs a new blade, and I noticed that Festool has started to sell blades with the same dimensions as the Mafell blades with the 1.8mm kerf ( Here's a link). Does anyone have experience with these Festool blades? Basically they're a lot cheaper to get them than the Mafell blades right now. I just don't want to mess up my saw by using off-branded accessories. Will these Festool blades work just the same as Mafell? Thoughts?

Festool has been selling 160mm blades for a long time.
Mafell standard blade is 162mm - but if you actually check out all the other blades Mafell sell for the MT55, they are in fact 160mm.
You will not mess up your saw using non Mafell blades.
Ideally you should keep the plate to kerf offset the same - so the Mafell standard blade has a 1.8mm kerf with a 1.2 mm plate, so the offset is 0.6mm / 2 = 0.3mm
So if you want to use a 2.2mm blade, try to find one with a 1.6mm plate - this avoids cutting into the rail splinter strip more than the standard blade.

Good call with the offset - I wasn't thinking about that as much. It does look like this Festool blade has the same plate thickness and kerf as the Mafell blade: www.festool.com/accessory/205551---hw-160x1,8x20-w28#Overview As far as blade quality, do you think it's worth spending more for Mafell or is this Festool just as good? I've never used a Festool blade before.

Can’t speak from actual knowledge but would be surprised if quality differed at all from Mafell. Have a festool table saw blade and it’s in the upper tier of quality I believe. Not sure who makes blades for Mafell and Festool but might be similar spec. Some Mafell accessories are expensive because they’re better, some are expensive because they’re Mafell (see numerous bosch examples).
Good idea looking at Festool blades, their high teeth count are certainly more affordable than Mafell. Mafell low tooth count (36?) is often discounted and can be quite cheap compared to rrp.

Having tried blades from many manufacturers, the Mafell blades seem to last longer before needing sharpening. I also have a lot of Festool and CMT, both very good. Not impressed with Key blades, they blunt so quickly.
Would not recommend going for a plate depth too thin, I found a 1.0mm / 1.6mm kerf from I think Bosch, wich gripped enough to spin up the blade, but at soon as it hit wood, the blade stopped and the motor kept going (this may have been on the K65M, I cannot remember).
Leitz make blades for some of the top tool manufacturers, but I could not say who, worth looking into if you can find them for a good price in your country.

Festool and Mafell blades are Leitz, afaik. I've used Festool HK blades in the MT55. Plate and kerf are identical. New TS55 blades are identical in size to HK and MT55. 1.2/1.8
