Yes, the separate clamping base is for those who want to upgrade their MFA or other accessories.

Fence looks cool. 1-3 month wait time in North America. Not sure the benefit of the clamping piece? I use two kip levers and it works great.

The waiting begins. Placed my order today. The clamp for the MFA is supposedly more rigid than the screws on some units and it is redesigned. But, does not seem necessary for me as the kip levers work great.

And just saw some posts in the new MFA clamp. I see now you can pop in on and off the side easily...just lift it on and off. Hmmm...now I need to consider it too.

By 'pop on and off' do you mean not having to slide it down the dovetail?

By 'pop on and off' do you mean not having to slide it down the dovetail? Yep. The bottom clamp cleverly turns and you can lift the mfa on and off the rail and then clamp it securely. Game changing to me. I do not like sliding it on and off, especially when cross cutting and ripping and switching between the two. This makes it a 3 second exercise.

OK cool - is there room to fit it between the left hand side of the saw and the sliding rail?

OK cool - is there room to fit it between the left hand side of the saw and the sliding rail? That I am not sure of. I kind of doubt it as the clamp piece is the same size as the original design. I never use my slider accessory so cannot say for sure. Hopefully I will get the new accessories in the next month vs 3 months and can report back once I can try them out.

OK cool - is there room to fit it between the left hand side of the saw and the sliding rail? Does not look like it. See picture in post #20 in German Woodworker forum www.woodworker.de/forum/threads/mafell-erika-85-parallelanschlag-nicht-mehr-verf%C3%BCgbar.114643/post-945599I do not understand Mafell sometimes. For me the point of dropping in the MFA is to use it without removing the rail. With the old one, you can cut the bottom half of the clam loose, this way it opens wider (and can turn to the side) and it is possible to drop the MFA in with the rail attached. The new one can be dropped in but not clamped when the rail is attached. It may be possible to flip the lever so it will clamp upwards or maybe cut a portion of of it so it will move next to the rail. Having the old one working this is not a thing I'd like to try for the money I would have to invest. The rip fence however is very nice addition.

Shame... it's not just Mafell though. Pretty rare I buy something with out a design fault!

I’ve had the parallel rip fence for about 1 week and it is very good. I did have some annoying teething problems though. There was a 2mm difference between the front and back of the saw (Erika 85) I know the blade is at a slight skew but I think 2mm is too much. If I set the fence at 100mm on the front it read 102 at back meaning I was getting rips at 101mm (makes sense as the blade is at the middle of the table) this wasn’t accurate for me. So after many phone calls to the supplier I had to undo the factory set 4 cap screws at slightly re adjust. There is now a 1mm difference between front and back meaning my rips are 0.5 off what it reads at the front. The supplier spoke to Mafell and they said you can do this adjustment but they don’t recommend as it should be factory set. The red plastic lever that locks fence in place was also very wobbly like it wanted to fall off but a quick tightening sorted that. At first I was disappointed given the price £369 in UK but now it’s as it should be it is very good, solid, awesome micro adjust. A definite improvement over using the MFA.

Just as I pulled the trigger on the Incra Positioner and fence. Mafell finally make a rip fence that makes sense. Im kind of disappointed it took this long at the Erika price point. Now I have spend £500 on upgrading something that should have been stock default design. Oh well....

You can google search the part numbers to find a retailer near you / in your country. A quick search shows the rip fence at around 325 € - I would rather pay more and have an Incra.
