.....well not exactly sticking, just harder to switch off than it should be. I'm pretty sure there's nothing caught up in it, it's always been pretty stiff. Anyone know of anything safe to use as a lubricant? I read somewhere it's not a good idea to use something like silicone spray or WD40 where electrics are concerned.

I have both this model and the Fein CCG 18-125 BLPD (paddle switch)... both switches have become sticky and harder to use with age - 'age'... we're talking a few months here!
I also have a 4speed Fein 18v drill, the trigger is sticky (it rubs on the housing meaning extra pressure is needed)...
the only 'really' good tool I have from them with no problems is the 18v multitool (can't remember the name).. same as Festool Vecturo cordless -this will be soon offered in a Bosch version.
Back to the grinders, I wouldn't be putting WD40 on it... if you find a solution let me know!

I like pencil shavings - the graphite, not the wood! Powdered graphite is a well-known dry lube. I use it on everything from slide rule runners to router posts, to saw plunge mechanisms. I'd still exercise caution. Use sparingly. Just sufficient to achieve the desired effect. Less is more in this respect.

simon tools maintenance YESes and NOes of mine: wd40- NO becomes glue-gu - nightmare for all parts, (including one chop (mitre) saw burning bushes, getting sliding bearings permanently seized). compressed air nozzle- YES, you'd be surprized how much dirt accumulates in some tools, esp brushed motor tools (IE my Hilti SDS, had a first clean up after 15 years of use...) brake cleaners- (careful YES) good to wash out most sliding mechanisms, even contacts, brushes, if too much- might be a problem, a (big) NO for getting on any (closed- speed) bearings silicone spray- YES for everything, including near sliding bearings, except for speed bearings IE on a router, including near brushes- kinda works like talk powder sticks with dust and dirt, but falls off immediately, don't last long PTFE spray- YES for everything, same as silicone, but is longer lasting, especially for any plasticky parts as switches touching. bad use would be on sealed bearings. Leaves bit of a yellow residue. (electric) contact spray- (small) YES, as it has 0% lubrication, it only works for chemically cleaning of corrosion/dirt of contacts... OK'ish to spray on sticky brushes, but somehow still leaves some residue and NO, anywhere near bearings, especially Lithium filed ones (like wd40) - reacts with grease and causes seizure sprayable white grease (solid oil)- meh, doesn't do or penetrate much, but simply is amazing on big mechanical contacts Van sliding doors/ farm gates sprayable Lithium grease - meh, kinda is OK, but never is perfect or penetrates that much and same as above little bit sticky/ attracting dust. engine oil- (small) YES and (small) NO- (not the "All In One" garbage) great for locks, don't freeze up or completely runs out, great for many uses, but hard to get it in the right places, as it's not available in spray form graphite?- no opinion, never tried...
