I have recently bought an mt55 and this might be a stupid question but does anyone know if there is any reason I shouldn't put a 160mm mafell blade in it as I only need a rough cut blade and they are much cheaper?

If it's a cordless saw then the wider kerf of a "standard" blade will rob the saw of both power & cutting speed. If it's a corded saw, then all power to you.....

Festool has recently announced a 'K' version of the TSC55 - amongst other things this uses thinner kerf blades that should be suitable for the MT5518BL.
I use 160mm blades often in my MT55, no problems

the only real issue using 160mm blades is the plate thickness and teeth kerf difference needs to be under 06mm... or half- 0.3mm towards the splinter guard from drive point... hope, I'm making sense? 1.8 - 1.2 /2 = 0.3 rest as in blades being thinner plate- (1.6 - 1.0 "for cordless") I wouldn't reccomend, as they would become too "flexy", thicker like 2.4 - 1.8 are going to load the motor more, but for corded MT55 or lesser teethed blade dont really matter

alvychippy I think I know what you mean but the blade measurements are 162 x 1.2/1.8 x 20 mm and 160 x 1.2/1.8 x 20 mm so as far as I can tell they are exactly the same except for the outer blade diameter.

I run 160's all the time. If you have any 140's laying around they would be fine too (probably negate / bypass scoring offset too for sheet goods + mo power).
