Good read, cheers. Pages 16-20 is pretty similar to what I do a lot of the time - integrating modern tech (bluetooth ceiling speakers, LED lighting etc.), but using genuine old wood for walls, ceilings, furniture, kitchens. Lots of spruce, it's a wood that ages well!.. also pine - all from old barns etc.
It would be a lot harder to do what I do without my Mafell collection!

Nice! Saw this on their facebook page, in German. Same... Then I posted it here and on Mafell FB page, in turn someone managed to translate and vualia! "Late evening, alone time reading" type of material, that used to be kept in a draw under the underwear 🤪 ... Too much info?

That mountain top restaurant is incredible! I don't go up past 2000m, all with road access - and the logistics are complicated. I can't imagine doing something like that... 2000m doesn't sound like much, but the workshop is at 800m, 1200m equates to 25km in the same valley, 30min in summer can be an hour in winter; if it's the next valley - 50km, 60min in summer; and then just to get behind the mountain range opposite, it's a 3hr trip in the summer.
Having said that, I wouldn't say no to the chance to work at 3000m!.. incredible views up there!

Well, mainly I lean up against the wall and drink coffee!.. I do interior renovation - kitchens, solid surface - but a lot of genuine old wood in newish apartments and chalets in ski station, i.e. complete ceilings, walls etc. It's great mix of old and new, creating a warm atmosphere through choice of materials, lighting etc... starting to sound like an ad!

That is awesome! Would be amazing work. I went to the Italian Alps a few years ago and the chalets there had lots of nice timber frame and wood interiors. I even saw some workers using Mafell tools. Not something you likely see in North America.

It's funny, France is one of the top tourists destinations in the world - there's a lot to see and do here - but a very difficult place to work. So many rules, regs, laws, charges, taxes and of course everything is so expensive here, as all these built in costs apply to all businesses - so the guy selling wood, tools, screws, you name it - has the same exorbitant costs and has to pass that on to the customer (i.e. me), so I have to pass that on to mine, etc.
The basic take on 'social charges' is 46% - what's that you ask?.. well it's like as a business owner, I have to pay that to help all the ill who can't work (or the fake ill who don't want to work), all the people who think their purpose in life is to breed and expect the hard workers (i.e. me) to pay for their offspring, to pay a retirement to the same who can't save for one on their own (I'm not included in this 46% - no it doesn't cover my retirement, i have to save for that too - it's called solidarity!), and of course to put lots of money in the big health care pot to help treat the obese, alcholic, drug abusing sorts (as well as the genuinely ill!)... and then there's tax - to pay for the rest to help society function.
So after all business expenses are taken out - I pay myself, the first 46% goes in social charges and we go on to personal taxation... I've run businesses in UK too - you get a hell of lot more money in your pocket at the end of the year.
So yeah, come to France for a holiday, drink a coffee, take a photo, drink a beer (and whatever the BS bit was!)... but you've got to be made of tough stuff to run a business here!
