iban that's exactly what I meant if "drill bits" were drilling straight as vertically along the starting point or the base/mounting would have been unequally off square to cause "egg shaped" hole. You seemed to have figured out and fixed already the base (guide) to be parallel, but not straight, eliminating possibility actual drill coming not square out of a motor unit. well done you! ...again... lol

iban: Indeed well done. A lot of knowledge & skill involved; even with another one to compare to - guess didn't know that when query originally posted. Just curious, because I'm not clever enough to 'get it'. How do you think this 'fault' came about? Was the 'fault' was present from when machine was brand new - in which case would have been a clear warranty issue... If not, something must have thrown it out of alignment - what do you think might have happened?

The guy who sold me the doweller also bought it second hand. It should be faulty already as he said he bought a domino soon after. Althoug there are some scratches none of them makes me think the machine fell down or something grave. And the fact that it has gone by various hands makes me believe it was faulty in origin but wasn't sent to repair or change. Antonio who has the dd40p too and helped me with the repair droped his and broke the plastic guide piece (the one I filed). He made another of aluminium and raised it a little with washers or something similiar. That's why he was familiar with the (few) adjustment capabilities of the dd40

LOL iban: look forward, when all sorted, to hearing what you think about the doweller after having used it while. Perhaps you would lean towards the Festool Domino? Good luck, and, thank you for posting - fascinating path to dowelling heaven... Regards Richard (UK)

at the moment only used for rough joining where precission was not important. Also bought some missing parts such as transparent window and the red plastic pins. And a couple of 10mm CMT bits (much cheaper than mafells and they work similar)
