New to the forum but just wanted to throw my first impressions out here. I gave the KSS 50 corded version a try for a few months. TBH I had terrible kickback issues and also had some issues with the trigger getting stuck in the on position, keeping the blade running until unplugged. It left me with a terrible taste in my mouth for Mafell tools and I barely pulled the KSS 50 out anymore. A few weeks ago I was asked about my experience with the saw and I gave an honest review. I was offered a full refund for the tool and said I'd be willing to try the KSS 40 based on what I had read about it online.
The KSS 40 cordless is a completely different story: From the very first cut I made with this saw everything felt different. It's substantially lighter, smoother, and felt more powerful and faster cutting than the 50. In the first week with it I've framed out and installed a coffered ceiling with T&G cedar + walnut accents. No problem. Ripped down 30 sheets of plywood for accent walls. No Problem. Base and crown in a small office. No problem. I'm absolutely dumbfounded in the difference between the two saws. Maybe I had a dud with the 50, but the 40 is the first tool I've ever purchased where I immediately loved it and truly felt like it was a total game changer for the work I do. Highly recommend this little beast!

It sounds like you're in NA; Timberwolf has been great to work with from a sales perspective, and I'm certain that they'd have jumped to fix the trigger (every issue I've had has been rectified save for the cut line which I fixed on my own).
I agree; having a saw stay on (any saw, at any price) would make me not take it out!
As to kickback, I also experience kickback on the KSS 60, but every time has been my fault, when I don't have the saw or board properly supported, and always when I'm trying to move too quickly for my own good because I'm "so close to being done". Every time.
Anyway, the next saw I get will be the KSS40 or the KSS300; and I am glad you like the KSS40!
[Edit] Changed 50 to 60

Yep, I think we all know when we are making a cut that could produce a kickback. The KSS 50 felt like it would never forgive you for that. The worst kickback I had I couldn't explain. I was ripping 1" of of a 1x12 oak board with the saw on the 8' track. About 2' into the rip the saw bucked up, then grabbed the rail, cut through the rail and nearly jerked out of my hands. That was the last time I used it on a jobsite. The kickback with the occasional saw staying on issue was too scary for me! Again though, the KSS 40 is unbelievable. I'd like to know who the KSS 50 is best suited to. I'm a finish carpenter and the smaller saw was just an instant hit. Cuts kiln dried 2x lumber without any issue and goes right through 3/4" ply. I don't need this saw to power through green PT lumber so really it's the one for me. I picked up a couple of the fine finish blades as well. The stock blade has been great thus far and I look forward to seeing the results of the fine finish.

I don't have the KSS50 so can't comment; the KSS60 18 is a great saw... and of course the KSS 40 - glad you like it, an amazing tool.

Derp. I actually own the KSS60, I must not have had enough coffee yesterday. The KSS60 is plenty powerful, and not that much heavier. It does kickback though when I do something stupid. I think, perhaps because it is more powerful than the 50 it is able to chomp through more? (Guessing here, never tried it). Still very glad you like the 40
