Hi I’m looking at getting the above saw and have a few questions firstly it’s only 18v I’m currently using a festool tsc 55 running on 2x18v batteries is the Mafell much less powerful? What’s the best place to get a good deal from? Which metabo batteries are compatible and are they much cheaper or should I just buy everything mafell ? Any information would be welcome Thanks in advance bobby

I've not used the Festool cordless. It is at least as powerful as the Makita 2x 18v, and not too far behind the Mafell MT55CC - which in itself is a long way ahead of the TS55. I've read the TSC55 is better than the TS55, but that's not to surprising. I've never felt it lacks power.
I went with body only and use Metabo 8,0ah batts with the rapid charger. You can get higher Ah batts if you go this route, you can probably save a bit of money too. Don't go for less than 5,5ah - of course they work, but the motor has less power on the 3,0 and 4,0 ah batts.

Any information would be welcome Thanks in advance bobby Any 18v Li-Ion Metabo battery manufactured since 2009 is compatible, however Li-HD batteries from Metabo or any other Cordless Alliance partners will perform better as they are capable of higher current discharge than earlier versions. Of these, the larger dual-layer (of battery cells) batteries will perform best in high current draw devices such as larger saws. Larger rated capacities will also have longer charge-life; i.e. longer runtime before discharge. Generally, as Metabo has the greatest manufacturing, marketing & distribution capacity of all Cordless Alliance members, they should also be the cheapest. I also have purchased a "bare" or "naked" version of the 91B421, AKA MT55 18 BL, & consider it a fine saw, eminently capable pf performing as expected in sheet goods & high density hardwood timber (Eucalyptus or "Tasmanan Oak") up to thicknesses not exceeding some 32mm. Greater thicknesses will require some circumspection on feed speeds, & in fact it would probably be preferable to utilise a mains powered Cuprex motored version for repeated high-capacity cuts & intensive use. You will find better economies by purchasing a naked Mafell saw, & perhaps selecting a "Basic Set" from Metabo consisting of either 2 or 4 x 8.0AH Li-HD batteries & one of their faster chargers, such as the ASC 145 in single or twin-bay format: 685131000 or 685135000. Lower current chargers (such as that included with the Mafell 91B421) will take longer to fully charge big batteries such as the biggest 8.0 AH. I do not have any Festool saws any more, as I consider them in general to be inferior to their closest Mafell branded counterpart, & have found in the past that the F/tool rail system is slower, more awkward & inaccurate to join together in comparison to the far superior Mafell/Bosch FSC guiderail system.

Good stuff!.. get some spare blades too - the Mafell blades are excellent.
