Hi all, my Erika 70 has arrived today and wow it is heavy duty. Those knobs from tightening the fence are a bit of a joke! Anyway, I was considering getting the 1m fence extension for the table, and wondered rather than attaching it to the fence, can I just run in independently on the table with two clamping points? That way I have a ripping fence and can keep the other fence for cross cutting etc. Many thanks.

Congratulations on your new saw. Yes, it would be possible to do what you ask. The problem is you would have to manually square the fence to the blade every time you moved the extension. That would make me crazy, YMMV.
Consider getting a MFA fence for crosscutting and using the universe fence for ripping.

Thanks you, yes that is an option I'm considering, just slightly more expensive haha. So far I'm find the fence rather odd to square up as it is. Until you really tighten the knob, there is so much play left to right it's hard to believe that it's going to square up at all. Quite unnerving! Bug plusses so far, waaay quieter than the DeWalt saw. I actually had to check the wood was being cut. The leg levelling is fantastic. It all feels very heavy duty and good quality. The fence is easy to attach. The knobs, as a few people have mentioned require far too much tension. A locking lever would be much better. Also the fence does have some defection in it when pushed. I know this is why most people when the extension and the clamp but I don't really consider that acceptable out of the box.
Hi all, been running with my 85 for slightly over a month now. I do mostly hobby kayak and airplanes, I’m moving between xcuts and ripping quite a bit, so I’m running into the same issues. How does the universal fence compare to the MFA? I was considering another MFA to attach the extended Fence as it has a real solid hold on the extended fence even before adding extrusion end clamp.
I was considering a second MFA, because the extended fence and extension end clamp is a pain to set up... I ended up getting an Incra for ripping, there's a post on here somewhere showing the setup. If you don't have the extension table for the Erika, a 2nd MFA would work. I use my MFA on the sliding table.
I have the same problem with my Festool CS50 Precisio; rip to the right of the blade, crosscut to the left - so switching between them is time consuming. It's a shame I can't put the MFA on the Festool!
I don't have the universal fence, it looks cheap; I got the Mafell rip fence which is not very good; it has since been discontinued. If your sticking with Mafell accessories, get another MFA - then let us know how you get on using two!
After a good two months of using the Erika 70 with the universal fence I can confirm it's really fantastic. Stays where is should, is incredibly accurate on mitred cuts etc. Can't see any reason to buy the MFA unless you do a lot of framing or have a lot of spare cash. My main concern with the fence is that it's pretty crappy for ripping. It's very difficult to do minute changes. The bolt has to be tightened so much that it always moves a little from positioning to tightening. I have used the DeWalt rack and pinion fence and for £500 it's actually far superior to the mafell. The other problem I'm having is when using it for cross cuts it's fiddly to try and attach a stop when doing repeat cuts. Can anyone tell me what the code number is for the universal fence extension is? It's very confusing knowing which extension works with which fence.

The fence extension works with both the Universal guide fence and the MFA. (As well as the now discontinued rip fence) 038392 is just the extension. 203396 is the extension and a drop stop. If you regularly cut material over a meter in length the Telescopic rod is worthwhile.
The fact that extension provided with the fences doesn’t accept the drop stop is ridiculous. For what the fences cost Mafell should be ashamed.
Thanks very much for the reply. So just to clarify the drop stop will only work with the fence, not with the fence extension? Also, does the telescopic extension fit directly into the fence, or into the fence extension? Final question I promise, can you use the drop stop on the telescopic extension?
all: Thanks to all for supporting me. I want to learn or know. That's why I have come in here.

bengt: Oh please the ks60 is better in every way. 60 degree miter in both directions. Bevels past 45(essential in a saw that must cut on the flat) Bigger blade more capacity. The Metabo hpt has 57 degree miter max and 45 bevel max.
