One thing that got me thinking was a comment from Timberwolf on cutline marking/measuring, and now I'm wondering if "I'm doing it wrong all along!" My normal method is to make a mark, from the tape/ruler/guide measure away, and a second one starting from the point closest to the measure indicating the take side. I then end up with an "arrow", and a clear mark (to me) showing where to make my line (if using a protractor/straightedge) or (now) place the KSS to cut dead on.
From what I've heard otherwise, I see "Germans" make an x and aim for it...whatever that means.

I make A line using a 1m steel ruler, and then a "<" on the side that the blade goes on... which is usually the right side.
