Check out CMT. They make the same bits as Mafell at a fraction of the cost and in more sizes.

Didn't even realize. How much you want to bet the Mafell bits are made by CMT?

Not sure how relevant it is but I have quite a few router bits and saw blades (miter saw, circular saws) from CMT. I have been very happy with their quality. I specifically had one on a worm drive circular saw that stayed sharp for a very long time. I am guessing their dowel bits are great too.

Perfectly relevant I guess they would use the same grade steel

Its hard for me to imagine Mafell Manufacturing there own bits. Makes more sense to change packaging and color to red.
I'v been eyeing the CMT for the last year but haven't had a need quite yet. I will need another 8mm and 5mm set soon. Would also like to add the 3mm for smaller shelf pin holes.
Yet to find a better dealer for 12mm dowels.

Been doing some research and having a hard time finding some replacement bits for the DD40. I'm hoping to find a lower cost option other then Mafell. From my research and measuring the Mafell bit size is as follows:
Shank = 8mm OAL (Over All Length) = 58mm RH (Right Hand) rotation 'Flat Face' on Shank for Securing Brad Point Tip

CMT actually make dowel drill bits for the dd40 and are about half the cost of the Mafell drills. I contacted a dealer who did not want to be mentioned on here. I will dig out the email he sent me and post the prices I was quoted.
