Just received delivery on a new Erica 85. There was a long spring bouncing around in the box. Does anyone know where this spring goes on the machine? Picture attached Thanks for any and all help!

...to clarify, the link Joe put is up to serial number 1194605, the spring is around the return damper - it doesn't seem to correspond to the photo posted. My machine is 123**** and has the separate damper and spring like limitedtime's photo

My machine is 123**** and has the separate damper and spring like limitedtime's photo OK I got the "big hole/little hole" end hooked easily, but I was not able to spot the attachment point on the motor end. I have it hooked over a protrusion there but it doesn't feel right. No good access or visibility short of disassembly. Do you have a more specific direction, thought or picture for the motor end of this spring?

Which end of the motor are you referencing - toward the controls or away from controls?

Which end of the motor are you referencing - toward the controls or away from controls? I couldn't get my head in to see (Erika folded down on a rolling base) - a quick unsighted grope and fumble, I can tell you roughly what's going on down there (it connects behind the motor) - but not the details!
Is it working being hooked on to the protusion?.. i.e. is it pulling back the saw head without the spring falling back off?

Well, I agree - but I’m in the U.S. and my dealer is in Britain! The pictures are great but do not show the spring I’m dealing with. So far, my fix is working.

I was looking at the wrong pictures in that post and now I see clearly - the spring is fastened at the base of a traveler bearing on the motor. Perfect and thanks very much!!

Yes, working. Which “behind the motor” are you referring to? Toward or away from the controls end of the machine? I've had a look this morning... the spring should be parallel to the slide bar (the one next to the hole you have connected the spring to). It connects on top of the motor around the bearing base as you have noted. This is the correct place. There should also be a red plastic cover over the bearing that covers where the spring connects.

The only dedicated Mafell centric forum in North America where mafell is actively seeking inroads. And probably responsible for more decisions to buy mafell in N.A. than its distributor. (a forum subbing for every other territory without a mafell centric forum too) + Almost every other tool mfg or their territorial representatives chime in at least once & a while on every other kind of tool forum to either ‘set the record straight’ or ‘assist’. + We know full well that they read this forum occasionally. + Yet a customer purchases one of their flagship products, is asking assistance on a dislodged or not properly installed part, and after 4 days…. silence.
= deplorable.

All is as you describe. I have now re-installed the spring as specified, dry lubed all bearing surfaces and everything is working perfectly! I agree with the post here about Mafell’s silence (deplorable), and add that I emailed Mafell customer service via their web site with this problem immediately - no contact at all! Somewhat disappointing! Interestingly I had a recent problem with some $5 missing clamp parts from Jet (China built) and within 3 days had new, replacement parts in my hands! That’s customer service and satisfaction!
