as mentioned on fog, triton has brought out a dd40 look alike triton TDJ600,it is on sale here in the U.K. for about £135,obviously it won't be up to the mafell standard but I guess you get what you pay for,i can find no information on bit holder size or if the 'tooth' pattern fence would be compatible with the mafell drilling template, any one else know?

Ya I checked this out earlier. I don't see dust collection and it's lacking the toothed pattern or the templates. I don't know what the motor is like but those are major features that are missing.

i already own the mafell dd40p but i was thinking that if it was compatible that it may be useful as a cheap auxiliary 'dd40',what I mean is that if you wanted to drill different size holes without moving the drilling template or changing the bits in the 'real dd40' then you could use this with different size bits installed,it would save a lot of time if, cam and dowel fittings for instance, needed different sizes of holes

Talking with a dowel maker he stated that Mafell is the only maker that has it figured out. All the other makers like Triton and Freud have RPMs that are too high. This burns the hole and compromises the glues holding power. if you have further questions I would get in contact with Trevor at Laurier Woodcraft. www.laurierwoodcraft.com

I have ordered the triton and should have it in a few days,It will be interesting to see how it compares with the dd40 and if it is compatible or not with the drilling template,it may prove to a useful auxiliary to the dd40 or a complete waste of money, time will tell.

I had the clone of dd40 badged under the 'Power' brand and sold about 10 years ago by by B&Q in the UK. I sold this and other dowelling jigs I had and bought the dd40g plus guide track. Cost me about £350.00!
The Power clone appears to be the same as the triton, which was an exact fit on the mafell guide track. I took pictures of it on the mafell guide track before selling it on ebay. It took 10mm shank cutters not 8mm like dd40g. It has no indexing pins and you have to rely on the centre line by eyeballing it so errors are natural. It came with a pair of 6,8 and 10mm cutters that were not tc tipped or carbide.
I will try and find the pictures I took and try posting them at some point.

Hi members, I'm just wondering if anyone on the forum can confirm if the Mafell 800mm jig can be used with the Triton TDJ 600 Dowel jointer. Relies appreciated, thanks.

Hi Holmz thanks for your comments, I feared I might only encounter tumbleweeds. Yes I was originally looking at the Mafell, however I saw the Triton and one of the dealers was doing an extra 5% off this weekend so I got it for a steal. It is advertised as coming with 2 off 10mm drills but 6mm and 10mm are also available as accessories. So yes I imagine the 6mm will be ideal for shelf pin holes. The Triton does have "teeth" on the fence which look similar to the Mafell. I have taken a punt on the Triton but they do not seem to offer the jig so was hopeful if somebody could confirm or deny the compatibility?

Doh! Oh dear I've already ordered the Triton. Thanks for your replies guys, much appreciated. If it is no good to me I will stick it on the well known auction site and take another look at the Mafell. I'm just going outside. I may be some time........

Great feedback skinee - good to know. Thanks.
AndyM - probably can get order cancelled?? Email to say want to cancel - then phone asap to confirm, and, sort out refund to card or whatever. I'm thinking that being Easter - bank holidays and all that - that maybe not going to ship as quickly as normal.
Don't know who ordered from. I once ordered something from FFX by mistake - they were very understanding; order was immediately cancelled.
Also, rather than eBay - check their returns policy, particularly if unopened. Worst case - have to pay return postage. Reckon better than messing around with eBay.
