I dont get how pushing the doweller hard enough is the solution to a problem of excessive drill rpm. We dont use that technique for any other tool in our armory. The problem is that the DD 40P is way too fast especially for hardwoods. Has anyone sucessfully tried using a speed controller? Surely it's not as simple as that and a number of other factors come into play - for example cut angle of the drill bits - the DD40 drill bits have a very shallow cut angle. Most of the thread however is talking about the DDF40 (8000rpm), not the DD40P(13500 rpm) you mention. I've never felt I need a speed controller with it. What wood are you drilling?

The speed is even higher, more than double. I've not experienced issues regarding burn marks with the DD 40 P. I find it a lot harder to push than a biscuit jointer or the domino machine (where you should not experience any resistance). As lincoln said, a fast and firm but controlled push works best. It is more comparable to "drilling" a hole with a router.
