hi guys does this 18v beauty have enough power for the likes of laminate worktops, solid surface worktops etc ? Laminate surely - solid surface I doubt it. The MT55 does not breeze through solid surface, (with Festool solid surface blade), I'd find it hard to believe the 18v would do better.

Usually here in the U.S. when you say 'solid surface' it's referring to acrylic polymer. If it's stone we call it out by the type or man made brand...
So if we're talking acrylic polymers (while I've never tried it with mafell), I have seen S.S. cut with a TS55 and didn't get the impression it had any problems getting through or bogging down. Have to think the MT would do better but maybe there's something I'm missing here (?).
Briefly, but extensively, worked with Avonite back in the day on a project and from my memory it seemed soft & easy to cut. Though at the time I was told Avonite was a bit softer than brands like Corian etc.

...I've just received a new Festool solid surface blade so the other one can be sharpened, cutting much better, so maybe the MT 18v would be OK. For info, not all solid surface sheets are equal, I use a very hard high mineral content one that is hard on blades and cutters

Just picked up the MT55 18 bl - tried cutting a length of solid surface with the new Festool blade - no problem, not as easy as with the MT55cc¸I wouldn't use it all the time for it but it does cut OK.
