Never, ever been able to use kneepads myself either... Only a large foam "kneeler" pad, which is inconvenient if you're constantly moving, or sewn-ins or elongated pocket inserts on the trousers.
WTF has all this to do with batteries?? Not much. Looks like this thread has been knee-jacked!

I've got the Bosch work trousers with the pouches to put the foam knee pads in - a good solution for extended deck laying or tiling.

I use a Bosch to be silica dust compliant. My assistant cutting stucco with virtually zero dust. So beautiful.

So it looks like the new metabo hpt (use only) formerly hitachi now have what to me seems the ultimate. Cordless with the option of corded adaptors. I will be keeping an eye on those.

jimbouk: I spotted a day ago on the interwebz that Hitachi are coming out with a 7 1/2" mitre saw in Multivolt which runs corded and cordless. That will be my next mitre saw for sure! It appeared in the flesh as a still shot in a video so it exists already though might be a while before production runs are a go. Probably in 2019.
They are releasing a 10" mitre saw in september I think (the a/c adapter a month or so after that) and on the jap market there is a 6 or 6 1/2" sliding mitre saw from before which I would love to see on the european market.
They got best overall on their (corded) job site table saw a while back in one test and they are releasing a full size 10" corded/cordless table saw in 2019. I am not sure but the table saw sure looked Metabo-ish - but most look the same anyway... Metabo was not in the test.
For the large hammerdrills, the mitre saw and the table saw the combination of corded/cordless option is spot on. For most other tools I couldn't care less since I am perfectly happy with cordless but options are nice to have.
Runtime on Hitachi/Hikoki batt's are less than on Mafell/Metabo in the 18V range but they are not bad. They are on par with the competition I guess and Multivolt will be an improvement for sure for the 18V range as the 4Ah will become 8Ah on 18V.
Over 8Ah I would be more concerned with charging times since there is a tendency for batteries to gang up and deplete in unison when you run a few tools...

I was at the Metabo HPT release event. The tools were really impressive.
The battery uses 21700 cells.
Most tools available now in NA - online, Menards, select Lowe's
Cordless table saw is based off the corded Hitachi out now. Will be available early 2019.
The show stopper was the Japanese built 7 1/4" miter saw. This will be available late 2019 as it's waiting on UL certification and other such details. Pricing will be around $1000. It's on another level of precision and made the 10" miter they are releasing feel like a toy.

So after some more research it seems the new hitachi/metabo hpt are really bringing it and looking like taking my money. I wonder if any of this will make its way into the pure metabo side of the business. Now that would be cool.
