What is the significance of the rail that comes with MF 26cc? I am going to buy the model with the groove cutter and it comes with a specific rail, but works with other rails.

The MF26 400 comes with a groove cutter and a KSS system rail. You can lock the MF26 onto the rail for crosscuts and it’s got a built in angle guide. If you need to do longer cuts, there’s either a 770mm KSS rail or the standard Mafell rails. I’ve got the MF26 400 and love it. I don’t think you can buy the groove cutter version of the MF26 in a non-KSS configuration. But you can buy the groove cutter seperately.

So it will ride on the regular Mafell rails without any problems? I will be using it for dados for cabinet construction. I have reached my limit in terms of futzing with my dado stack where panel size allows it or reverting to a router for large panels. Neither are great solutions for repeatability and the MF seems like the solution. I have an MT55 with plenty or rails that will cover longer dados. I also am eyeing up the 45 degree wall board cutter for doing column wraps. Do you have an MF26 and any reason not to buy it?

Neither are great solutions for repeatability and the MF seems like the solution. I have an MT55 with plenty or rails that will cover longer dados. I bought mine for exactly the same reasons. Being in the UK, dado stacks aren’t considered sound and are pretty much unobtanium, and I got fed up using a router for the sheer whininess of hearing myself curse every time I experienced a skip or burnout. I ‘ummed and ‘arred about it and read all of the posts on this forum including wrightwoodwork who mentioned that having used the MF26 it makes you realise how inneficient a router is for cutting dadoes, which probably clinched it for me. I agree. I find the MF26 incredibly simple to use. I’ve not needed to try it on the rails but it works on them, and I bought the parallel guide so that I could profile some rafters with to receive polycarbonate sheet panels. It cuts very cleanly, much smoother than a router cut. The weight is good, and I find it far easier to handle than a router that I’m pushing in a straight line - there’s a lot less agitation from the cutter and you don’t have to even think about feed rate. Depth is easy to set, remembering to rotate adjuster indicator according to whether you are cutting on or off the track (i.e. off the track means you are using a guide fence). Any gotchas? I ordered the bigger 35mm hose because my 27 was getting clogged and the 49 wasn’t long enough. The cutter is a jewel and will make you want to dado everything, I’m building dadoed shelves now. The red metal case is a bit silly just to store the KSS rail and I’d prefer to have the option of a Systainer and a soft bag for the KSS. There are no off-the-shelf alternative groove cutters available e.g. for cutting narrower grooves. That’s it as far as I know.

I have no qualms with the mf26cc at all. I ordered it with the kss rail because if you ordered it without then the machine does not come with the machined groove in the base. I thought it prudent to get it as the kss version in case I ever needed it.
I ordered an additional mafell maximax sustainer and the insert for it. Got the slotting head and wallboard cutter and everything fits snugly into the maximax. Then I just hung the kss rail on my trailer wall. Best of all worlds imo.
