This sounds like some ageing marketing department honcho trying to be hip... & getting it spectacularly wrong. I'm not being ageist here - I'm approaching my 6th decade of life too, but it's just all wrong.
"My First" is reminiscent of other ad campaigns like "My First Sony", or to be generous maybe "My First Toyota", which are aimed at Prep-school & maybe High School ages respectively. Either way, to me it screams tragically unhip. I'd imagine young tradies will avoid this like (I hope I don't offend here) an all-too-friendly girl with crabs.

I saw these, who wants to walk on site with a "my first" anything? would kinda be good for a laugh though on second thought

I would walk on site with a pacifier in my mouth and loaf in my diaper. That's beside the point.

That campaign is seriously strange & confusing. Especially if it works and I can't figure out what fine point their research showed.

I think it's us who are experiencing the cultural dissonance, not them. Having lived in Germany for a few years, I've seen lots of examples where US/UK culture is appropriated and not quite done right. In particular in branding. What sounds hip to a German speaker by dint of having English words sounds very naff to US/UK ears. Then you've got the fact that German kids who are entering apprenticeships are usually expected to dress in a traditional way. So wearing a baseball cap with a German brand name and English wording probably goes down as more of a fashion statement on a German site. It's not really exportable though.

I'd consider it, mostly as a theft deterrent. Been thinking about one of these for the same reason. No use for the hat or bag though.

That certainly helps to make sense. I absolutely was looking through the optics of an American. All I could see is the kid throwing everything away except the hat unless he could use the removable end caps to hide his weed and repurpose the level as a bong.

If you want an example of the target segment, check out βBau Boom Bangβ at www.youtube.com/channel/UCgv7eiHNTzeh93bWZKstjcQ . You wonβt thank me for it. Canβt comment on bongs, all in the hazy past, although I understand that the juve of today have access to such laser bongs and skunk thatβs so strong that with one puff youβre speaking to Joan dβArc via your own personal telecommunications satellite.

Man are you guys focusing way too much on the ''my first' bit and not the douchebag aesthetics.

If he's a pasty white guy with a line beard, living off of a stripper, smacking around his various other ladies, picking fights with me based on my perceived sexuality, stealing my girlfriend with the lure of hard drugs, on probation for too many dui's, and going 100mph in the snow while shooting up steroids into his toes....he's wearing these stylings, mang. Then again, I've just described half of the masonry dudes around these parts, so, bob's your uncle. :0
