Well written, I agree to all of the above.
The point where I found the A18m the replacement for my Festool 18V drills was the release of the Metabo 3,1 LiHD battery. It meant that the ergonomics improved to the point that the overall superiority of performance of the A18m drill over the DRC 18/4 and the T18 as well as the compatibility of the vital Centrotec accessories made the Festool drills non essential in my set up. The A18m readily replaces both - with no regrets.
On the larger batteries I find the LiHD 5,5 to meet all my requirements for the Metabo mitre saw and the KSS 40. I am not sure I even would want the 6,2 Ah battery. The LiHD 5,5 takes long enough to recharge already and the runtime is excellent. I am happy with the Metabo/Mafell battery platform. There are voids in the line up - but that goes for all the line ups.

I agree with you, Henrik: if you hadn't sold me the LiHD 3,1 i would probably use the A18 solely in the drill station, as it is simply too unwieldy (is that even a word?) with the 5,2 battery. It's much improved ergonomics with the smaller pack.
