I'd like some useful suggestions please.
Most of my dust extraction requirements are currently from smaller tools: Metabo SXE400, Duplex LS130, Rotex RO150, BS 105E Belt & GDA 280E Delta sanders. These use 27mm hoses mainly.
I sometimes connect Planers: AEG 102mm HB 750 & HOE 800, both hand-held & with thicknesser attachment, Festo HO 850EB & Metabo HoE 0983, and occasionally a 1/2" Router DW621 & Metabo KSE55 track saw. These require the 36mm hose.
Larger tools will be a Bosch SCMS, Metabo mobile table saw TS 253 & a router table with 2300w router attached. The first 2 need 36mm min. hose sizes & the latter a 50mm min. sized hose.
Serious dust is also very occasionally generated by using 5' & 6" grinders for concrete diamond bladed floor & wall chasing & grinding with shrouds fitted & a monster 12" dry-cutting Bosch diamond floor saw. A 36mm hose clears the concrete dust best.
There's also the need for about twice yearly cleanout of the flueways of my woodstove & 3 heaters that involves dealing with fairly large quantities of ash, soot & sticky creosote residues.
Then there's the regular habit of housekeeping in home, shed & patios of dust & (occasionally damp) detritus.
I currently have no less than four! 27mm A/S hoses, a 27mm x 5m non-A/S hose, 36mm short non-A/S hose, a cheap Stihl branded 50mm hose, plastic pipes & floor tool, a couple of 2 way hose "splitters" & some 36mm cleaning gear, steel wand etc. My current Festo vac was stolen with its 50mm hose, aluminium pipe & floor tool attached.
Here's my current shortlist:

www.metabo.com.au/Vacuum-Cleaners.55695.0.html
www.festool.com.au/epages/tooltechnic.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/tooltechnic/Products/584169/SubProducts/584169
These are currently selling for $979, $1089 & $1550!! respectively. All have 36mm A/S hoses as standard. The Metabo hoses are marginally longer. I'd want another 27mm hose about as much as a hole in the head. They're useless in my opinion on anything bigger than a sander.
The Festo/ol is just about the only vac they make that doesn't have one of those stupid, stupid, brittle "Hose Garages" perched on top, has a similar capacity to the Metabo/Starmixes & costs about 50% more than the others too! It's only real advantage is the availability of longlife filters and reuseable bags, of which I'm a great fan. I'd love to modify one to fit either Metabo!
It also has variable suction control, which is ideal for the tiny sanders like the Sexy Metabo & Bosch Delta. I used to cobble together a small 19mm Bosch hose with a couple of turns of duct tape to the non-A/S 36mm hose & turn the noise down to its lowest setting to stop whistling in the small Bosch hosepipe. I gather neither Metabo have a variable suction control, yet their hose size dial might instead work similarly. I don't necessarily require (or at least haven't in the past) fancy filter autocleaning functions. I suppose, nevertheless, it could be a useful feature.
I think I like the 50l Metabo best as: (a) its cheaper
(b) it has a 4m hose
(c) the largest capacity (40% bigger)
(d) similar size (i.e. slightly larger but not too top-heavy or "tippy") footprint & height
(e) onboard tool storage,
(f) Metadepot capability
(g) Has a nice big handle for getting it up & down stairs
(h) The possibility of using a Festo/ol CT36 longlife bag in it ??
All useful attributes in my opinion, some (most??) of which I'm sure are shared with the others too I guess.
There are however three great unknowns: firstly, are all the Festo/ol & Stihl (Nilfisk/Alto/Wap fitting) hoses, splitters and other paraphernalia going to be compatible with the Metabo/Starmix vac/hose interface; i.e. will they fit?
Secondly, will a new 50mm Festo hose fit? Will there be an appropriate dial setting for 50mm hoses?
Thirdly, will the hose dial really slow the vac down sufficiently for efficient use of my tiny sanders.
I'm sure the Festo is a good vac. It appears at least superficially to be the pick of the company's current range. Both of mine have been good to me over the years, but a 50% price premium for what appears in many ways to be the lesser tool is quite unjustifiable in my opinion.
So which should it be? The ASR 50 M SC, ASR 35 M ACP or the CT 36l HD Autoclean L class concrete extractor?
Anyway, any help that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.
