Ok, I have now tried the blade and it definitely works without problem. I did some cutting with the blade after a brief anxious dry run and I did cut 45mm studs down (although it is certainly not the best suited blade for it!) and no problems with hitting the housing. I am not endorsing the use of larger blades but in my case I now have two fine cutting blades that I can use on top of my blades for the MT55cc. I have never cut a radius with a circ plunge saw yet so I will take that risk of wobble into consideration if I ever and do it with the Mafell original blades.

It is interesting to now know the MT55cc is a 160mm "and 165mm" tracksaw... At least in a pinch you could use them after visually verifying.

Yes, spinning the blade manually before locking it down as suggested earlier in the thread is probably the best. I don't know how true the sizes are and a blade that is 166mm would probably be a little too close for comfort!
I can't see how the housing would deform enough under use that the Bosch 165mm blade will come into contact with it and blade wobble on a track saw or thermal expansion is nothing I worry about at all. I have cut Staron/Corian boards up to 3600mm in length in one take and the saw blade does not get hot enough to cause concern and any wobble would have showed up on the cut for sure.

I take it that the Bosch blades are the same kerf thickness as the Mafell? (So that rail splinter guard is stays unaffected.)
*edit - did a search, 1.2 plate thickness with a 1.8 kerf for Mafell vs 1.3 plate thickness with a 1.8 kerf for Bosch. Plate thickness prob a misprint and both are the same.

kraft: I can check the blade and cover for specs. I am not sure they are made in the same factory, Bosch make their own blades and Mafell blades might be made by Leitz?

I measured the Bosch 20 tooth blade, and it is 1.81mm kerf and 1.3mm plate. The blades are made by Freud. I should have the other two blades (combo and crosscut) and the Bosch saw in a week or two.

Thanks Andrew, I did a little reading up on it as I remembered hearing that Bosch owns Freud. Turns out they own quite a few more companies as well... www.bosch.com/en/com/bosch_group/our_brands/our_brands.htmlHawera, Diablo and Freud are three of the companies in the cutting tool business owned by Bosch.

Some friends have English cars and for the Lucas electronics they refer to Lucas pty ltd as, "The prince of darkness". Too bad Bosch owns Diablo.

Holmz: why is it bad that Bosch owns Diablo? I don't know anything about the Diablo brand except that they seem to make great demolition blades. I don't know anything about Bosch corporate policy/philosophy either so enlighten me if you have any beans to spill.

The prince of darkness is the devil, which is Diablo in some languages.
As Lucas electronic are known sarcastically as "prince of darkness", then we can not use diablo for Lucas tools as it is already used for Bosch tools. And Bosch is not the work of the devil, so it makes no sense to use it for Bosch.

If we were going to buy tools based on corporate policy - Bosch would be 1st choice - look up the Robert Bosch foundation and what they do and stand for... shame there's not more like them.

Diablo is just a particular brand name used for the "rougher" cutting blades in Freud"s line. Targeted at the trades I suspect. Less a satanic connotation than just something like "a devil of a good blade".

"Like a hot knife through butter" is their slogan.
