Hi folx i took the plunge and got myself an A10M. A nice little drill i gotta say: Very light but still mighty strong. I was pleasantly surprised that all Centrotec accessories fit onto the shaft. The grip is somewhat big but i'm now used to using my bird-finger to manipulate the trigger and the index-finger laying parallel to the shaft. The lighting is allright but, again, i use a head-lamp if it's too dark, so i can't say something about its functionality. The tiniests of delays with trigger action, not something that bothers me, personally. The one thing that bothers me: It beeps when pulling the trigger. According to Mafell ,that is unalterable. Well, i never had a singing screwdriver before..

Mine does. And i contacted Mafell germany over it, cuz i find it slightly annoying. The bloke said it's supposed to be doing it. But that might be for the german/ european market.

Strange, mine is certainly from Germany, I got it from Dictum. I'm happy it doesn't bleep though. I hear enough bleeping with bleeping phones, tablets, and bleeping appliances all over the bleeping place.

If I pull the trigger back it "rings" sort of like an old TV with the high pitch of the flyback transfer. It is ~4kHz I think, but maybe ~2kHz. I assume it is for either PWM (pulse width modulation) or some motor control. But the frequency is always the same, and it comes on when the light comes on.

That i can confirm. I thought it was an acoustical feed-back for the user. But the brain's good at filtering , i find the bleating much less intrusive today than i found it yesterday..

Forgive me, but isn't this a re-badged Metabo - no, that's not what I meant. We know it's a re-badged Metabo on the outside? I guess I mean is there anything different inside the casing? I think in the UK it's a great deal more expensive than the Metabo that's all, so was wondering. Not stirring things up, might be different for other markets.
I do like the fact that the Festool chucks fit it, compliments the others I have pretty well.

So I sent the one I bought to a friend who is a FT junkie.

Thru the grapevine i've heard/read that the innards are somewhat higher quality, but i can't give you any sources for that statement. I got the Mafell at almost the same price as the Metabo, so for me it came down to colour-choice..but the batteries are interchangable, i believe.

I too have heard that there's something different with the gearing or gear-ratio in the Mafell vs the Metabo. Don't know any specific details though or if it's every really true. I heard a similar thing about the S35 vacuum. Apparantly the Mafell vacuum has a different electronics calibration regarding the flow measuring and filter cleaning compared to the standard vacuums.
All in all I think these sort of things are very minor differences you probably might never notice in use.

Spec wise they are identical. The Metabo remains a high quality drill, while I admit the mafell looks a lot cooler, I cannot justify importing one then having to get a metabo battery charger just for looks. My metabo version has exceeded my expectations and did so at a lower price point than a festool pdc or mafell variant. Plus I get full warranty coverage by buying local. All advantages for metabo. My problem now is that metabo distribution has gone down the toilet. I'm hoping this improves.

Yeah, not sure how Metabo will fare with the Hitachi takeover. I'm curious to see.

Likewise, in the US it seems they're pushing promotion a little more. As for Canada, their website is now at least 2 years out of date.....
