using a vac removes the most dust obviously, but i find it performs rather well with the bag as long as you empty it often

huntsgemein: I haven't used my Metabo 18V SCMS yet without a vac but I guess that I can expect a mess...
The KSS 40 does pretty well with the dustbag. When the bag is filling up it throws more dust out. For flooring I find that the dust bag does a great job. Cutting MDF to size (did this yesterday at the lumberyard) it does "ok" but my bag was filling up so the last two cuts were kind of messy as the machine itself gets covered in mdf.
Overall I am happy to use the KSS40 with "just" the dust bag indoors for some cuts. Hooking up the machine to a Vac is of course better and I usually keep it attached to a vac, except for flooring. For flooring I cut and the tidy up now and then and it works fine.

The irony is that when one takes the workpiece to a stationary tool, like a SCMS, this is the situation where dust extraction usually excels, with the vac setup nearby & the hoses conveniently routed.
When one takes the tool to the workpiece is when the hoses tend to tangle themselves up on tool, workpiece &/or operator. Mafell is generally far, far superior to the others by virtue of having integrated non-snagging end caps on the rails, but it still happens. Some tools like Jigsaws are sometimes best left naked, i.e. without dust hoses when the going becomes convoluted. They don't create the large volumes of dust, nor do they tend to throw if far & wide like other tools.
Maybe it's possible to rig up some type of resistance-type "trigger" on cordless tools connected through the mains to toggle dust extractors on & off? It sounds slightly dodgy, & not a little bit dangerous, but if correctly done it needn't be: using slimline cables attached to the extraction hoses and double-insulated microswitching.

There is actually a remote for triggering some of the Festool vacs. I agree with your points.

Good to hear! I am thinking of pimping my CTL26. Not sure the MIDI is doable though.

Loving this little saw. Plenty of power and runtime esp with the li hd batt. The dust bag is very efficient and the flexi guid rail and rip guide are easy to use and accurate too. It's just so versatile and easy to use. One of the first tools I take everywhere now 'just in case'.... The ease of cordless is hard to beat and makes life easier

All I have to say is it works flawlessly for what I'll be using it for!
Thus far I own the mt55cc and the kss40 18b. Next is the 60!

Been raining here. But I can tell you it's a powerful little beast. I'm very happy with it thus far. It's small, but big enough. Very light.
It will be raining through Monday. So real world test will start Tuesday.
It screams 'quality and professional'. What's surprising is how well the dust bag collects composite. I wasn't expecting that.
A member from another forum did a video with the HK cutting composite. The dust bag was basically useless. I did one cut with the 40 and it collected 75% of it. I can see it filling up fast, but I'm okay with that. The power is better than I expected.

I love my KSS 40, the dust collection is very good with the bag much better then I expected and it's so light and agile, but it's definitely a specialty tool in that you don't have alot of cutting depth but we all knew that before buying it and what it can do its dose very well!

I took my bag to my tailor and he's going to make me one that's 10" long with a zipper.

That's a great idea Calidecks I'll have to look into doing that with mine it would make emptying the bag much easier. Thanks for the idea!
