Very cool review!!
I am actually in the market for an auto clean vac. For wood cutting applications, my CT-26 works great, but recently I have been cutting a tremendous amount of stucco, plaster, sheetrock and concrete with an angle grinder, and eventually I'd like to be able to sand drywall. Up till now, I've been using a Dust Deputy to help filter much of the dust prior to hitting the CT, but eventually the ultra-fine dust still clogs the pores in the fleece filter bags, and the CT/DD setup is cumbersome to move around a job site.
My concern with the Festool CT-36 AutoClean is that it is not HEPA certified, and (at least in North America) Festool advises using this vac ONLY for sheetrock dust, and that any concrete dust would void the warranty.
This Starmix vac seems right up my alley!! I'm fine ordering the Metabo version, though of course I'd love a Mafell-branded unit that I could purchase through Timberwolf.
Does anybody have any info about whether Mafell is going to adopt this latest Starmix vac?

Does anybody have part #'s for any of the Systainer Docks for ANY of these Starmix vacs (Metabo, Mafell, etc….)?
I'm looking at getting the MEtabo ASR-35, but would really like to get a Sys-Dock for it, even if it means retrofitting an older dock to the new vac. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much fellas!

Found the Metabo part! Page 171 on this catalogue, they call it a "Metadepot", part #6.31937. cdn.metabo.com/up/media/123-174_Catalogue_EN2011_03.pdfNow, to find someone who can order it in North America! Any suggestions? I sent an e-mail to my salesman at Acme tools, I'll let you know what he says.

Spoke with Metabo this morning. Sounds like the Metadepot is not currently available in North America, could possibly be special ordered if a bulk order is placed.
Regarding the ASR 35, it sounds like this vac is actually being discontinued, and that a new, updated version is scheduled for release sometime in 2014.
UPDATE : spoke at length with a very pleasant and informed rep from Metabo, an updated version of the ASR35 is slated for delivery to USA in roughly 6ish weeks . The new vac has updated sensors that monitor performance and pulse the filters accordingly. He said the Systainer dock CAN be made available, he is working on generating a North American product # for it, should be available around the same time as the new vacs. Who else is excited ?!?

Ok, here's the North American part #'s for the latest Metabo ASR vacuum, scheduled for arrival in late March, and the North American Part # for the MetaDepot Systainer Dock. Please note, the MetaDepot will need to be modified (as christoph describes earlier in this thread) to work with the vac.
Updated ASR35 AutoClean HEPA: US602057800 North American MetaDepot, originally for ASR 2050: 631937000 Fleece collection bags (5-pack): 630343000 PVC collection bags (5-pack): 630325000
I am very excited for this vacuum, it should be a great complement to my working habits. If the shipment arrives as scheduled I'll post up a review sometime in April.

Very exciting! If the new Metabo has the innards of the newest Starmix I'd be interested in getting one too.

Woodie, it is my understanding that the Metabo vac, part #US602057800, has the latest and greatest Starmix internals. The vibe I got was that many of the manufacturers are racing to keep up with the new regulations coming out of California regarding cementitious/silica dust contentment. Apparently this latest vac that arrives in late March will have upgraded flow-sensing technology for improved control of the auto clean functionality.
I too am very excited! Like I said earlier, I certainly don't think my Festool vacs are "bad" dust extractors, I have just become increasingly aware that they are primarily designed for wood dust, and that my needs also include a vac that can efficiently extract dust from concrete, plaster, stucco, and dry wall sources as well.

Im in the market for a new vac after deciding to make my midi dedicated to my kapex and am thinking either ct26 or a similar sized starmix, either mafell, starmix or metabo.
Any differences between them or benefits that out weigh other. I seem to have confused myself!
Oppinions greatly recived!

The starmix ipulse vacs are all the same, just different colors for each brand. As mentioned in earlier threads, the ipulse vacs have stronger suction than the CTs and they dont loose it like the Festools do when 50% full.
On the other hand, Festool CT vacs allow a myriad of accessories to be mounted like systainers, boom arm, workcentre,... A systainer mounting accessory is supposed to come out for the new starmix models by the end of the year but so far nothing yet. Anyway, to preserve the suction on my stationary CT Ive resorted to an ultimate dust deputy cyclone on top, but that unfortunately has made it a rather unweildy contraption.
Its a difficult choice indeed...
Also worth a look are the vacs from airbo and pullman-ermator. They offer models that are even more powerful than the starmix.

Thanks jonathan,
I think the metabo asr50m sc is looking favourite at the moment. Just need to see if they have a sys doc for it yet.

Hi, i have the star mix isp35 and i'm very happy with it. I use it in our workshop and from time to time on worksites but its not the best solution for "mobile use"! Therefore i am about to buy a festool mini or midi soon. It can't compete with the starmix filter cleaning technology, but its usability with the "hose-garage" etc. makes it much more suitable for mobile use in my opinion...

Have fun with the "hose garage on the mini/midi it's a royal PITA. I still miss my midi though for portability, it was awesome
