just got the new drill driver a few days ago and took some pictures: mafell A18 M bl
I got the maximax version which includes the 5.2Ah batteries, chuck, bit holder and angle chuck, quality as usual is top notch, the drill has metabos impulse function and eleven torque settings, when any of these are selected a button is illuminated on the top of the drill, pressing this illuminated button moves the drill to maximum torque(drilling) and the light on the button go's out, this makes switching between drilling and screwdriving much quicker as you don't have to re-dial the previously selected torque setting, there are two speed settings, selected by moving a sliding switch on top of the drill,i find the drill well balanced, the grip is slightly on the chunky side but quite comfortable even for me with medium sized hands, two bright led lights come on as soon as you lift the drill actuated by a movement sensor(they are disabled when the forward/reverse switch is in the middle/neutral position so as not to be on during transport),the battery slides off after depressing a switch at the lower back of the drill, two 25mm drill bits can be stored on the drill at the bottom of the handle(magnets ensure their security),a four bar display indicates the charge in the battery, its actuated by a button to the side of the display, the charger has a fan which cools the battery during charging,i believe this is to speed up charging although I'm not sure how this works, the drill bit chuck and bit holder chuck are removed/inserted much the same as festools centrotec system by sliding the collar forward,on mine the bit holder chuck was so tight so as to be impossible to get on initially,it took oil and repeated attempts to get it to seat properly,i'm not sure why this was, perhaps the machining tolerances were so(too?) exact, anyhow it comes on and off now and will obviously 'wear in',as a precaution I contacted my German dealer and he is shipping out a new one,the drill bit chuck is Rohm, quality made in Germany(it slides on and off very smoothly),the angle chuck seems very robust,it will fit steplessly(at any angle) on the collar and is secured by a cam,the drill its self is made in Germany,a label indicates the batteries are "assembled in Hungary",overall the drill seems very robust is well balanced and will no doubt be a workhorse.

Very nice review their. Little question, is the impulse function like a hammer drill or more like an impact driver. Also I think in the specs or somewhere it can drive 50mm anger bits. How feasible is it

Been bugging my local dealer to get the metabo version. I'm more than a little jealous. Would love some pics.

Very nice review their. Little question, is the impulse function like a hammer drill or more like an impact driver. Also I think in the specs or somewhere it can drive 50mm anger bits. How feasible is it Impulse is more like an impact driver, but the torque output isn't really high in impulse mode. It's meant to minimize skating when drilling on tile, or preventing strip out when removing a screw w/ a stripped head. I'm not sure about 50mm augers, I only have a 25mm ship auger and it's not a challenge at all.

Could you give a measurement of the length of the tool without chucks attached?

Yeah, 144mm to the tip of the recessed chuck. I threw a PH2 bit in, and it's about 158mm. This is the BS 18 LTX BL (or A18 M bl in Mafell-speak).

regarding the impulse setting, just had look in the manual,it gives the torque at 49Nm in impulse setting whereas its 90Nm for maximum torque in drilling mode,so the impulse function is not a poor mans impact driver if you know what I mean,i had an old metabo years ago and the impulse does help stop the drill bit skating on hard slippy materials also for screw removal where the screw head is damaged, today I received the replacement bit holder chuck, its perfect, slipping on and off as smooth as silk,as to the maximum drilling capacity in wood I don't know yet,it does state 50mm(2") in the manual,my biggest auger is also 25mm and it handles that easily, part of the reason I bought this drill is because my protool/festool 18v DRC was stalling drilling 10mm holes when deck building last year, the holes were deep and the timber not always as dry as would be hoped but the DRC was a let down for that type of work,I hope to put the drill in a t-loc in the near future, will post a photo when that happens.

Skinee great review. Will the bit holder fit festool drill? If not is it because the hole is too small or too big?
