Of course you know Chippendale furniture but take a beautiful and close look at what Thomas actually accomplished in this amazing documentary.

crazy how one single piece of his furniture now sells for millions yet he died poor. Not uncommon with artists but still a bit odd & surprising. I enjoyed the videos.

Ya classic case of wealthy client ripping off the craftsman.

Dealing with clients is part of what's kept me in film construction as my pay is guaranteed but eventually I'll have to plunge back into the real world

Dealing with clients is part of what's kept me in film construction as my pay is guaranteed but eventually I'll have to plunge back into the real world Clients are a vicious thing. One method which Chippendale could have benefited from was to require a down payment and draws through out the process. At the end there should be no more then 10% due. This saved me lots of times. Must not have been allowed back in the 18th century.

I guess theres a benefit to a good Justice system and contract law. That story is proof that people(even nobles) were just as dishonest as people today.

I thought that was a prerequisite for being "noble"

It's the worst when you still have integrity and pay your payroll and materials purchased on account. I am admittedly bad about even getting half up front and half at job completion. I really need to systamatize the bookwork portion of my business.
