Got a chance to play around a little more in the shop today - not really time to work with the KSS80, but did rip a 2x4 in half and took some pics of the cut quality of the standard ripping blade that comes with the saw. I forgot to initially hook up the DC to the hose and got sprayed with warm saw dust, LOL...so it works extremely well. This saw nearly cuts a 2x...it ripped it without even breaking a sweat -- uber smooth and I was actually really impressed with the cut quality of the standard ripping blade. There are very, very minor tooth marks on the stock, but part of that is I was free handing the rip and started and stopped in the middle of the cut a few times to add DC and to check things out on the cut itself. I also cross-cut with the same blade and track. This saw is amazing. Nothing else really needs to be said. Exceeds all of my expectations. More to come.

That little sliver of wood is all that is left of the 2x and represents the clearance of what the saw does not cut. I would say it could easily handle 4x beams -- not a perfect through cut, but good enough for most rough construction related tasks. The thin strip is 1/32 and easily breaks off. Notice how smooth the rip is - no burning whatsoever. It is a really, really great cut. Cannot wait to see what it does with the higher tooth count blades.

Aw man Scot, that is SWEET. I can wait for my little saws to get here. I think you are going to be REALLY happy with that. The little strip on the 2x is nothing for most applications. That's a great piece of info.

That's a great piece of info. Yeah - at first I was kind of wishing this saw would have enough clearance, but after giving it a go I am more than happy enough with it for my needs. I am not ripping 4x beams every day so for the times I need to do it, this will be just fine. Plenty of power and this saw has more capacity than my General 350 - happy camper here! I think you will really like your saws when you get them. Cannot wait to hear your impressions.

Thanks. Ordered the roller edge guide - it came in today. Certainly need that guide to take full potential of the saw and get guide rips closer to the blade than the standard edge guide. Hope to shoot a little video over our upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday this weekend.

That is very cool. It took me a minute to see that you actually ripped the 2x4 edgewise. That is impressive power, not to mention you are good with no track. You have to be cutting pretty straight no matter how good the saw is to get the wood that clean. Extra impressive since you mentioned that it did the cut with ease.

Thanks, 7. The saw made it easy for sure and it cut really, really straight. Having power to spare helps since I did not have to push the saw. Also, I did stop have way through the cut to install the DC fitting - I was so excited to try this cut I just did it without hooking up DC. The nozzle was pointed right at me and so I wore saw dust the rest of the day, LOL. I cannot wait to get my hardwood to try. I have an old off-cut of 12/4 hard maple I will cut next to see how well it does in the thick hardwood stuff. I also think that will be a good test for how cleanly it cuts. Stay tuned.

With all the mental back and forth between the KSS80 and the KSS400 that you went through before buying the 80, I bet it feels good to be so confident now that you made the "right" choice. I'll have to check sometime but I think it would bog the 400 down a bit to even cut at its full depth. 3 1/2" is enough to bog a decent cabinet grade table saw.
In my experience it can actually be harder on the saw to cut a softer wood like pine than some of the hard woods. It seems the blade has a harder time clearing out the thicker soft saw dust than the finer dust from hardwoods. I am interested to hear back after you cut the 12/4.

Yeah...I was pretty impressed with the power of the saw. Like I said not even a whimper. I am very happy with my purchase - I sleep better, haha. But, it was a good exercise to take my time and weigh all the pros and cons, especially with this kind of purchase. The roller guide is on its way and that will be the accessory that will make a big impact on the work I have planned for the tool. I could see adding a KSS300 to the mix for smaller stuff, but I am not even going to go down that path at the moment. My wallet is a pile of ashes at the moment...

The KSS80 track looks identical to the KSS400 track, I wonder if they are in fact the same. I feel like this may have already been discussed. Might be nice to know since the 400 has the optional 770 track if a need arises.

No the track for the kss 80 is completely different from the kss 400 and a lot wider. Work on the same principles. Unfortunately the 770 track won't work with the kss 80 only the kss400 saws

With a good ripping blade you might be surprised what a smaller saw can do. I was using the MT55 yesterday to strait line rip 6/4 poplar and pushed the saw through as fast as I wanted without hesitation. Saw and blade combo did great. Remember this video from a while back?
