Yes the 1400 is available in the US. I own a 1000, the 1400 & a 2200. As Wright WW points out, it's the in between model. I use it more than the other two but am glad to have all three. My biggest complaints are the pistol grip (very personal) and the dust collection. Unlike the 1100 & the 2200 the 1400 does not have an integrated dust port. Instead it has a clip on plastic port which works ok but is sure to be lost or broken.
Peter Parfitt on the FOG has done some nice vids of the Festool routers, might be worth a look if you're interested.

I already have the 1400, and really love it. Took a bit of getting used to the grip, but once I was, it has been absolutely fantastic. Works well free hand, and in the CMS table. I've never wanted more power, but if I did timber framing or staircase work, the 2200 or the Mafell would be top of the list.

Glad to hear that you like the grip, there may be hope for me after all.

Ya I really like the pistol grip as well. To each their own I suppose

I like the pistol and regular handles - I guess I am comfortable with either grip. I kind of like my DeWalt 621 knobs and it is comfortable to use.

The first time I used the router on the guide rail. That's when the pistol grip made sense
