Really nice work. Is that one of those lie nielson flooring planes. I guess you enjoy using the hand tools as much as the power tools. Yes, that is a Lie Nielsen No48 Tongue and Groove plane. Very fun to use. Here's the link. www.lie-nielsen.com/product/tongue-and-groove-planes-In my opinion it takes both hand tools and power tools to be most efficient and do quality work. For example, there are some cuts I can do with my backsaw that I just can't do correctly with an electric saw. That goes the same with many other hand tools. Many times hand tools can get the job done better and you may even be finished before you're done setting up a power tool.

I agree with you, Garch. You have to be adept at using both powered and human-powered tools. Virtually every project I build uses a healthy dose of both.

Garch - just curious, what are the dog holes going to be used for on the inside of the legs - or are they just through holes from the front vise?

Garch - just curious, what are the dog holes going to be used for on the inside of the legs - or are they just through holes from the front vise? They are through holes for holdfasts. This way a workpiece can be held against either face side of the workbench. I've also drilled holes to allow for the holdfasts to be used on the short ends of the work bench incase I want to extend a board beyond the face side of the bench for supporting workpieces. This was all easier to drill before the legs were installed. Really fun stuff. There are all sorts of imaginative ways to use your workbench. I feel that mine will definitely evolve over time.

Awesome! Never would have though of using them on the end, but that is a great idea.

Well I've commissioned Peter Ross to make a couple of accessories made for my bench. A "real" forged planing stop and holdfast. I'll post pics once they arrive and I start installing them.
Check out the video...

Amazing build, garch. Love your use of hand tools in conjunction with power tools. Love the look of those Barr chisels, finding it very hard to resist...

Just waiting on the holdfast and planing stop to come in so I can finish up. Otherwise it's pretty much done. Once it's complete I'll post photos.
