just got this new rail square a few days ago,it is from taiga tools in Finland?, link this company was formerly know as dominofix and was/is known for there domino connectors and mft jig etc.i had already the FC HYBRID rail but as its a pain swapping it between rails I wanted another rail square and thought I would give this one a shot.this square requires no tools to swap between rails unlike the FC squares(although I believe the latest incarnations of the FC have a slot to hold an allen key).two thumb screws are released underneath to allow the brass inserts up to slide on the rail, then the pull clamp is engaged in the slot and closed which pulls the rail snugly to a step on the upper square and finally the thumbscrews are tightened again.it feels quite secure with it all tightened up and there is no discernible movement BUT...,the pull clamp is weak exerting little force,it could not be described as heavy duty and I'm not sure how it will stand up in use.Taiga show on their video that the square can be used with this clamp removed so it may not be that significant, time will tell. I tried it out cutting a piece of sterling board and it cuts perfectly square,(as does the FC square),when tried against my 600mm woodpecker square.the taiga square is similar in size to the FC square but is a little lighter in weight.i have some concerns about the robustness of this new square and its ability to stand up to worksite use, whereas the FC squares engage in both slots underneath the FSN rails the taiga only engages in one which is a mistake I believe,i would have more confidence in it if both slots were used.the pull clamp is weak and would not 'take a knock' without issues in my opinion.another advantage of the FC square is that the offset allen bolt/brass nut forces positive engagement pulling the rail tight to the square but the thumbscrews on the taiga(unless I'm seeing things wrongly) merely pull the rail downwards without exerting any lateral force towards the step on the upper square.in short,if I had to choose, the FC rail would be the winner for me,it just oozes solidity whereas the taiga does not in my opinion.i got the taiga around £120 because I pre-ordered it,i see the price has now gone up,if I were buying another rail square it would be another FC rather than the taiga. photos below:
