The cleanbox is a quick fix solution for working outside, saves spewing 100% of the dust out!.. don't bother with it unless you do this a lot. I'm currently fabricating some solid surface tops, the dust is fairly heavy - none of it goes up the top hood - it all gets flung forward carefully lined up to fill my jean pockets. This is with the Mafell Y connector going on to a 1600w iPulse Starmix. The best collection I have ever had from the Erika was when I tried it with my proper dust collector on a approx 70mm hose. The other option is to put one vac on the back, one on top - I tried this with my Makita DVC860 which has a foot switch, plugged into the Auto plug on the Festool Midi - a quick kick turns both the vacs on. Not ideal, but better than with the Y connector. I'm guessing it will be too hard/expensive to upgrade an existing Erika to add the new dust channel, but I could be wrong. Sorry to hear about your experience with the solid surface. Using the two two point system, I generally will have collection in the 80-90% range, until the vac gets to about 1/2-2/3 full, then collection falls off pretty quick. I use a 50mm Oneida hose from the wye and the Mafell hose to the hood. Thanks for info info on the Cleanbox. I couldn’t justify the cost for a cardboard box and a piece of plastic. My old reliable Bosch table saw had a cloth bag that hung from the port. I worked pretty well.

I'll try with two vacs, I've got more solid surface to cut today.

I'm disappointed they don't seem to have addressed the issue of accidentally changing blade height when using the push-pull action. I've never found this to be a problem... maybe there's a friction adjustment, in any case, mine doesn't move unless I want it to. Maybe it's how I hold the handle - hand on top, fore and middle fingers either side of the pull out bar, no grip as such, just let my hand hang there. Yeah I do that too, but I always feel a bit uncomfortable about it, especially if it completely returns and locks in the end position between cuts, because then I have to press the button to release it with my tiny Trump hands. I guess I have to think of some simple way to prevent this, like hang or tie something to the bar when doing such cuts so it can't fully reach the end.

"I guess I have to think of some simple way to prevent this"
The bar is approx 16mm ( or 5/8" in antiquated measurements ) - just find a pipe clip of the right size and pop it on when you don't want it to block in place.

Does anyone know if the new blade guard can be fitted to the “older” Erika 85?

Does anyone know if the new blade guard can be fitted to the “older” Erika 85? I’d like to know this too. I’ve always struggled with the spring-bolt that connects the guard to the riving knife on the original guard. Yesterday I managed to send it flying when it loosened and fell onto the blade. There’s now a nick out of the plastic and a good excuse to upgrade, if possible. It is Christmas after all...

So the updated Erika 85 (971901) is now showing on the Mafell service pages, it looks like the whole blade protector assembly is item [3] 207067; light module is item [3.5] 207105; but there is a cable, item [3.7] 207843; this poses the question where power is coming from... In the parts list, item [247] 207107 is showing as power supply light module. This is on the bottom of the motor, not yet worked out how power gets up to the blade over.
Anyone with a bit of free time to delve into these drawings a bit more? Items [86] & [89.2] could have something to do with it - no names in the parts list. In any case, not an easy add on...

I have the updated erika 70ec. and the cable from the motor to the leds in the blade protector is built into the riving knife. the blade protector and riving knife have contact points that run the current once connected. although I have to admit that I haven't been able to make the leds work in my blade protector, I think the leds in my blade protector are broken because when I connect a led strip to the 2 contact points on the riving knife they light up. Here's a picture of the riving knife. link

Thanks! I guess the positioning of the blade guard must be critical to get a good contact for the LEDs, hope you can resolve it.
Does your riving knife pull to the right when it lowers (last 25mm or so), or have they fixed that problem?

Does your riving knife pull to the right when it lowers (last 25mm or so), or have they fixed that problem? I got the led light to work. The tightening knob to attach and detach the guard from the riving knife was tightened too hard from the factory, which prevented the guard from sinking far enough. I loosened it with an alan key and now it properly makes contact. It has a movement sensor in it as well which is handy. I haven't had any problems with the riving knife so far. Had a quick look and it stays straight with the blade all the way down. I cut some rabbets last week and the riving knife didn't give any problems.

Good stuff!.. I think the LED is a great new addition to the Erika. I think it will be too expensive/complicated to upgrade an existing Erika, and too expensive to take the hit to sell and buy a new one - so I just got some extra LED lighting for my workshop instead!

The led is not thàt bright. It's a nice to have but nothing more. extra leds in the workshop will be far more useful.

Hi, I'm about to purchase an Erika 85 and have been told it will be delivered to Germany soon which is where i thought they were made and then to my Irish Dealer. Where are they manufactured?

Pretty sure all Mafells are made in Germany - maybe it just means the parts that make up your order will be delivered from the factory to the despatcher?

They are all made in Germany - crossed wires somewhere I think!
Good luck with the Erika!
